CUCV: What glow plugs to buy? (24volt origial military)

Mudd, you won't get the full 24V at the GP .... the resistor pack will lower it way down when the GP system on and pulls power - which is key here.

CUCV: What glow plugs to buy? (24volt origial military)

I believe that is OK; with the truck off, I get approx 19v where the power goes into my GP soleniod. However, with the GP system on, it goes way down (as the GPs are drawing the power). I believe this is where the resistor on the firewall comes into play - to make sure the system gets the 12v...

CUCV: What glow plugs to buy? (24volt origial military)

Mudd, Yes, the glow plugs are the same as the civvy. If you can't get the 60gs, I believe the 9g are pretty close. While you are at the auto parts store, get some ether starting fluid. That way you can get the truck started, and diagnose any other issues. -graham

While on the Hyrdaboost subject ...

I looked it up at PartsAmerica.com and took the number to AutoZone, from which they had a different brand but used the same number. Cardone Hydraulic Booster: Reman. Part Number: 527248 Hope this helps, -graham

CUCV: Won't Start; NO FUEL... How to bleed out air?

Also, can you get the truck started and running on a shot of Cetane boost or Ether? Remember, if you use ether, don't use a lot and make sure there is no power going to your GP relay. -graham

CUCV: What glow plugs to buy? (24volt origial military)

I have the same, original 24v setup. However, remember you got 12V at the GPs. 24V is only for the starter. I went with plugs from SS Diesel Supply; self limiting. However, they have spade/tabs on them - they are not the nipple type. My ends were 'looking bad' anyway, so I didn't mind...

CUCV: Won't Start; NO FUEL... How to bleed out air?

I had a hunch it was more of a GP problem; your symptoms where just like mine only to find out that my GP's weren't even coming on. I posted in your other listing on what plugs to buy. -graham

While on the Hyrdaboost subject ...

I like to report success on changing out the hyrdoboost. $100 for a lifetime warranty one from AutoZone, and took approx 4 hours to R&R it (first time). No more leaks on my floorboards, and the truck stops better!

CUCV: Won't Start; NO FUEL... How to bleed out air?

Have you tried to 'fool' the fuel system by putting Cetane booster or diesel fuel down the intake? By doing that, you are bypassing any leaks ... see if the engine will run for a few seconds with diesel down the intake. If you are ballsy, you can get the truck started by using Ether ... but...

While on the Hyrdaboost subject ...

I know you can't use the M1008's hyrdaboost on the M1009 Blazer, however will a unit from a civvy blazer (of the same year) work?

So what's the next big repair/upgrade on your CUCV?

Hey Georgia folks! I am in Atlanta - maybe we can get together at one of our houses and work the trucks? Nothing like another set of hands, along with Pizza and Beer. -graham

So what's the next big repair/upgrade on your CUCV?

That is definitely true, but I am not sure if the 'boss' would allow it. :? I can get away with individual parts stuffed in places, but a whole truck maybe pushing it. Just wait until she finds out where I stuffed my extra glowplug system parts .... the dryer maynot work :)

So what's the next big repair/upgrade on your CUCV?

Yeah, I know we talked about this at Aberdeen - so you are going to run with the 3.73's? That is a good point; I should look at doing that before swapping in a 700R4. However, I may start the hunt early for a diesel based 700R4. I am thinking that these maybe hard to find in the junkyards.

So what's the next big repair/upgrade on your CUCV?

Luckily mine is running pretty good at the moment. Drove to and from Atlanta to Aberdeen with no major issues. My hydraboost it leaking p/s fluid on the floor boards. Its on the repair list. However, I think my next big upgrade I will want to do is put in an overdrive tranny 700R4. Big...

    Back from Aberdeen!

I too had a great time; it was great to start putting SS'ers names to actual faces. I didn't take much pictures during the rally, but i had a slew from the Convoy. You can download a zipfile of them here. http://www.m1009.com/2006AberdeenConvoy/2006AberdeenConvoy_Raw.zip -graham
