To start off, here's the details on my truck. It's a 1968 non-turbo troop truck with winch. I've never had a problem with it starting, no matter how long it sat previously. It'd sit up to two months at a time and always fired up. The clutch and rear main went out, so I took it apart to...
The only cable that I remember removing (and reinstalling) was a ground strap on the bell housing.
The wiring to the switch itself wasn't loose and the switch FELT like it was clicking.
On the topic of starters... What's it mean when I push the start button and nothing happens? I absolutely know the batteries are good (I had them charged and tested, both good). I just got the truck all put together after doing a clutch job. Could I have missed something that's causing my...
I'm actually finishing it up today. I have to go get the gear oil and drop the batteries off to get charged. I probably won't get it on the road, but it'll be running again.
Would there be anything to gain in effeciency by swapping in a Cummins turbo or something similar? I'm not sure if it'd even be the right size, but I imagine turbo technology has come a long way since the C and D turbos were designed.
That's something I'm starting to wonder about as well. Who can I get insurance through that'll allow me to take a trip to Missouri or Ohio (and etc) if I want and not have to worry if I'm covered or not. What if I want to haul firewood or some scrap metal? What if I want to haul my trail...
Didn't someone here do that? He just extended to torque arms and re-used the leafs and everything else. Although, I recall the leaf packs being a little too short, but still useable.
The bottoms of the stake pockets are BAD for collecting rust. I have one that's almost completely gone. Several others are in bad shape. The PO just knocked off the surface rust and painted over them. He ever took time to bonbo over the rust pits to make it smooth. I went over every one of...
Depending on the primer you used, you need to seal it with something. It'll soak up and rain and rust the metal underneath unless it's a sealer/primer.
I opened this thread expecting the worst, but it's not too bad. It actually kind of grows on me the more I look at it. The only critique I have is that it could use some more gray and/or black to break up some of the blue.
I'm excited to see this build. I imagine that some products that are often used will be incorporated. Here's a few things I'd like to see though...
1) A 5.9 12v Cummins with an Allison automatic behind it.
2) 20" double beadlock wheels with WIDE tires.
3) Cruise control, a stereo and A/C...
