2HI, Locked Hubs, "Jumping" Front End

At least the NP208 is an easy transfer case to work on. 1) Buy some transmission assembly lube online before you take it apart (used to hold the dozens of roller bearings in place. 2) Take it apart on a bench with a lip, or on an old chunk of carpet to contain the dozens of rollers that will...

    CUCV recovery kit - recommendations?

I like the multimeter and the tow bar suggestions. Maybe grab a small assortment of hose to take with you, including some of that little stuff for the injector bleed lines. Personally I take a pickup powered by a 5.9 Cummins, and a trailer with a winch, but that is cheating.

    Dana 60 ring and pinion

Where did it chip on the tooth (that can tell alot)? Also what is your backlash? Maybe get some marking compound and do a pattern on it? My opinion is that if you are chipping teeth and not breaking axles (outer stubs) there is something wrong with your gear setup. Worn bearings, little to...

Zero Rates on Front of 1009?

I have my axle pushed 1" forward on zero rates and shortened my drag link 1". It works OK for me but I only have about 2-2.5" lift. My front springs are flat, straight as an arrow and the draglink is very close to parallel with my springs, and even then it is less than ideal (I'm going to go...

Looking for recommendations on Injection Pump rebuild in the Ft. Worth area

Stanadyne part number 26214 is the 12V replacement solenoid. The picture shows the correct way to put the lid back on. It is an easy job to swap it out, just be deliberate when installing the lid. It is critical that you don't stuff the shutoff solenoid arm behind the metering valve. Just be...

    M1009 to 700R4 and NP241

For what it is worth, when my 700r4 decided to turn one set of planetary gears into metallic paste in the bottom of the pan it had one of "the beast" sun shell in it. It is a strong product, but the sonnax "smart shell" uses a Torrington bearing, and some other magic to take the thrust load...

    M1009 to 700R4 and NP241

eBay... or a pick-n-pull yard. As far as what upgrades to go with. Sonnax "smart shell" (sunshell) Rebuilt torque converter with new lockup friction material. Larger servo (corvette or 4L70E) More frictions Get a kit to modify the governor, most likely a "diesel" one will shift too early with...

    M1009 cucv with bad fuel

I'm curious if your issue is somehow related to the 100% swig of marvel mystery oil. I don't know how well a diesel will run on straight marvel oil. I like the idea of a small container of fresh diesel piped straight to the injection pump, followed by pulling the glow plugs and turning it over...

Are you bleeding the system with the glow plugs in? If so take 10 minutes and pull all of them out. Your starter will thank you. It is a lot easier on the starter to turn over an engine with no compression. Put some cardboard on your inner fender well and turn it over until the mist from the...

Intermittent trans issue, possible wrong fluid?

I am no transmission expert, but it it won't move without lots of throttle it sounds like more than one set of clutches (or bands) is engaging.

Help choosing the right lift kit parts.....

Call around to some commercial truck and heavy equipment parts places. Someone will have a U-boat machine. That way you can get exactly the length you want. Just take a cloth tape and use it to make a u around the axle the length you want. Blanks normally come in 2" increments. 18271 tuff...

It might help to take some video of it and post it.

    M1009 injector pump issues.

Is this a new pump, or a new to you pump? I had an issue one time with a pump I thought was good, it wouldn't start unless I gave it quite a bit of throttle, and it wouldn't idle. Took it to a pump shop and they got it working. The metering valve was screwed up.

    M1009 injector pump issues.

About the only thing I can come up with that has not been mentioned is that maybe you managed to roll a couple lines on the pump? It might be possible to roll a couple lines, or install them all off by one position. That might explain your problem. For bleeding the system I'm of the opinion...

That is neat info, and shows how to apply the timing mark to the pump housing, that is something only a rebuild shop would do. I don't think that info will help you out. GM for whatever reason made some combos of pumps and engines with timing marks that shouldn't be aligned. Who knows why...

I'm fond of a 5/8" 12 point crowfoot on a 6" extension for working on the lines when the pump is on the engine. If you get in a jam try to track down a quality one. I have had good luck with my Martin ones. If you find any timing info specific to your pump model please post it for reference

Pain in the rear, no power in higher gears!!!!!

Is this a new problem? What ratio ring and pinion are you running? What size tires are you running?

Mine starts and runs too. It even starts right up when it is 20 degrees outside with no excess cranking. If you do want to look at 16015.05-16 it is in the TM section right here on Steel Soldiers.

Glad to hear you are going to put the pump back on. Hopefully you marked or measured your timing marks before you pulled your pump. Correct timing is usually not having the marks alligned. The pump mark should be offset to the drivers side. If you download "The 6.2 Liter diesel engine" GM...

[Questions]M1009 Axle Swap and Drive Shafts.

You won't regret a 14 bolt and a Dana 60. Like what was already said the 14 bolt is a marvel of engineering except for the brakes. It has three pinion bearings, the carrier preload is adjustable with a spanner wrench. Only thing with the 14 bolt is to make sure you don't get one with a gov...
