m1010 white smoke wont stay running

Glow plugs aren't lighting off, and possible air leak in the fuel system.

    New CUCV member

Yes they are addicting :gimp:. Good score on this truck. The most common problem with these trucks is there lack of use which translates into dry rotted soft parts. So start checking all the little rubber seals, hoses, and gaskets. Yours has pretty low miles so this is important. But your lucky...

Bought my first CUCV M1009, need radiator

It's funny all the problems you've mentioned with Advance, I've had with Auto zone. On line shopping isn't the problem it used to be. Sense moving to rural GA 8yrs ago, all mine & my wife's shopping has to be done on line. I've ordered 5 radiators (not including the one for my truck), and a slew...

Bought my first CUCV M1009, need radiator

Aluminum radiators will be more efficient, an ALL aluminum one will be more reliable. Also you need to be careful, some of the plastic tank ones are only 1 core. The 2 core is the one you want.

Bought my first CUCV M1009, need radiator

OOPS sorry about that I linked to the wrong one, I fixed it, and in my defense I think when I ordered mine it was much cheaper:shrugs:.. And it did fit good but definitely needed the new urethane isolators..

Bought my first CUCV M1009, need radiator

Welcome to the hobby.. My personal rule of thumb with these trucks is this (all soft parts are dry rotted and will need replacing) Most of these trucks problems are not do to OVER use, but LACK of. They sat parked for 30 years so all rubber parts, gaskets, belts, and such will start to fail as...

Probability of frozen engine that cranked then ground flywheel?

Agreed, but would still need to be done anyway. And even if they were swollen you could still loosen them up enough to relieve the pressure and/or any liquid.

Probability of frozen engine that cranked then ground flywheel?

I thought I'd jump in here with an idea, With an engine of any kind sitting for soo long, it could have filled with condensation or even leaked some raw fuel into some of the cylinders causing it to hydro lock. I would pull all the glow plugs and try turning it over.2cents

    Drivers side front sag??

Agreed, it would need to be on jack stands, on level ground to get an accurate measurement. I was too busy trying to be funny and left that part out:jumpin:

    Drivers side front sag??

I just finish a Skyjacker 2-1/2" lift in the front and ORD shackle & U-bolt flip in the rear. The ORD stuff is a much better design and well built. But it is a lot more work, and it raised the back about 4" rather then the 2-1/2" it was supposed to. also I ended up having to shorten my drive...

    Drivers side front sag??

Wow Army truck drama LOL! Recap & a couple points I'd like to make,.. The OP's truck is sagging to one side, so just for good measure "Pun intended" he should check the cross measurements of the frame to make sure it's not bend, or racked. And yes this is a very simple process that CAN...

    Drivers side front sag??

I did a quick search and could'nt find 73-87 cross measurement specs. But I'm sure if you look a little harder then I did they're out there. Or you could call a frame shop and they could tell you "if they're willing". But it's pretty basic, just find 4 matching points (bolt heads or holes) on...

    Drivers side front sag??

I would check your frame cross measurements first!! If you found it was tweaked, and if it were me, I'd do something completely redneck yet effective. :grd:Like put a Hi-lift jack on the lift D-ring of the low side and jack the heck out of it. And / or drive it down a washboard dirt road fast...

Where can I find Fuel Cap & Door?

I'm collecting the parts to add a second fuel tank to my M1028. And I also need a (complete) fuel door including the whole opening to weld into the body. If anybody has one please PM me. Thanks D

    Drivers side front sag??

Well after thinking about it, reading this other thread, and recalling my time tinkering in a collision shop, I think I figured it out. Theses Blazers/Jimmys are basically a unibody mounted to a truck frame, This is the problem! Truck frames are designed to flex and twist, whereas unibody...

    Drivers side front sag??

Well a couple ideas come to mind. Perhaps someone replaced one spring and not the other? You could swap front springs to see if it changes. Also check the cross measurements of the frame to make sure it's not bent. Worn bushings and/or bushing housings. Mismatched shocks.

coilover / spring assist shocks for M1031?

There's a reason they're getting hard to find, just like air shocks. The little shock mounts were never meant to hold the weight of the vehicle. The best thing is to add either a helper spring, or better yet a set of air bags. Hellwig makes a couple different types of helper springs that will...

    Coolant not recovering

So this problem continues and I'm thinking it's acting more like a cracked head. Only expanding open and over pressuring the cooling system when hot enough on the highway. And not on short trips around town where it doesn't get worked hard or have time to heat up enough. I found a company on...

    Shock..ingly Better

Your actually better off without the boots. They fill with dirt & mud, then hold it against the shock rod, making worse the very problem they're supposed prevent:roll:. They're just one of those kitschy gadgets from the 80's, that for some reason hangs around like the mullet, and Calvin and...
