Welcome to our world. Like you, I have found every answer to any question. On my m1008 I go by the theory if its rubber replace it, if its electrical clean it. And do the doghead starter relay modification asap, its a $30.00 preventive maintenance that will save you hundreds.
How did it tow at highway speeds. I'm going up this weekend to tow back a M101a2 with my E250. I towed my M101a1 about 5 miles once but not at highway speeds.
I did not have any problems registering the A2 as I had a SF97 for it. The A1 the DMV had to think a little harder but did register it.
They probably have some rust issues. I had mine off last year and IIRC I used a piece of plywood to protect the cowling and a piece of steel shaped into a tuning fork design to SLOWLY pry them up. Add some antiseize when reinstalling.
On my M1008 I pulled the bed to paint underside and chassis. 8 bolts,1 ground wire, 1 electrical connection and 3 0r 4 screws around the fill pipe. Came off real easy about 1 hour or so.
I wish I could help, I am driving down to just north of Tampa next sat and returning back to RI a week later, It is just a little too big to put in my Ford 500's trunk, although I am taking down a 20lb danforth.
I think the electrical guru's are going to need to know what has changed since it ran well and now sparks. Did you change the alternators or changeout any electrical connections. Also check out the tm's for more info.
I have a board sander from HF, the first one lasted 1 hour the second one finished the job , about 3hours. I just picked up a 12 volt winch which I only had to return the first 3 and finally the fourth worked.
I recommend the extended warranty 'cuz this stuff is really LOW quality. I would...
There are several electrical wizards on here (not me) that will be along shortly. In the mean time go to the resources tab on top of the page and find the tech manuals for the cucvs there is an abundance of info there.
Mine has not had any electrical issues yet, but I anticipate some sooner or later. I have had the heads off , trans out, replaced flexplate and starter. Like they say its 25 years old.
