Looks like a replacement tailgate on it. Either the dash was repainted too, or it's an original issue white paint job, which would make me think Air Force.
Not worth the buyout he's asking, but $800 for the engine and transmission ain't bad if they're in good shape, IMO.
If I win the lotto in the next two days, I'll be driving around this bad boy.

I'd have to put a cot in the back and move right on in!
Re: RE: this cucv worth it? and how to tell
From the TMs and threads here, the M1028 is an M1008 that's slightly modified to carry a communications shelter; the 1028 will have extra tie-downs in the bed, an overload leaf spring in the rear to increase the GVWR from 8800 to 9400 lbs, and a...
I think I see a rubber floor mat in the second pic - that can be good, or very, very bad, since it can trap moisture beneath it and rust out the floor panel.
The very small bit of the engine compartment that can be seen looks decent. Maroon dash, which is either in really great shape if...
Does anyone have a handy guide to decoding the VIN info on the CUCV series trucks? I'm particularly interested in the differences between the M1008 and M1028, since they're almost identical at first glance.
I know someone posted about some 1028s that had the 200 amp charging system seen on the...
Houdel -
Thanks bunches for bringing that thread up! That centrifuge is *exactly* what the local student group I've been working with on biodiesel is looking for, to filter used oil from the cafeteria and a few local restaurants. They've got a budget of a few hundred dollars each quarter...
John -
I'm not running my 1009 on biodiesel (yet), but from my experience running my other vehicle on it, don't worry too much about the fuel lines, IF they've been serviced at some point. If they're stock from when the truck was new, or you don't know their history, replace them just to be...
International battery dealers can also order in the 6TL maintainence type batteries. At least my local one can, don't know if it's manufactured by Deka or International. They want more for it than I'm prepared to pay just now.
Found the noise!
As it turned out, the noise wasn't in the diff itself, just close by. I pulled the driveshaft to check it, and the U-joint nearest the axle was shot. I'm suprised all it did was get noisy. The grease fitting was bent, so no lube was getting into the joint. When I pulled one...
Whoops, yeah, it only rings/pings when the wheels are moving - the exhaust is rock-solid steady, nothing to rattle around there.
It's proportional to the wheel speed, which is what makes me suspect the diff or t-case. I jacked up the rear axle and put it in drive for a bit, and it was...
Just last week my M1009 developed a ringing/pinging noise somewhere in the drivetrain. It sounds like something in the rear diff (or possibly the transfer case).
I checked both rear wheels, everything was fine. There's a little bit of play in the rear driveshaft - that is, I can turn it a few...
Hi all,
The starter bendix in my M1009 has finally given up the ghost. New starter is on the way, but I'd like to rebuild the old one and put it back in. Only the bendix is dead, the rest is in good enough shape to keep using.
Does anyone have a source for rebuild kits that aren't almost the...
I've been having similar problems with my starter.
From what I've been told, and poking around here looking at other threads, if it's spinning, it's most likely not the solenoid.
Someone mentioned in a thread that the ring gear on these starters does fail, and can cause it to spin but not turn...
I'd also like to find a stock jack, tire iron, etc for my 1009. Any suggestions?
Along similar lines, where do I find the bolts that hold the spare tire to the bracket?
Had the same thing happen to me, and it recurs from time to time. In my case, it's the belt on Gen1 - the old belt wouldn't stay tight enough under a heavy load. Replaced it, tightened things up, worked fine. Then one of the bolts holding the gen in place slipped a bit (I hadn't torqued it...
I've been looking at all the options for replacing the floormat in my 1009, since it has started to crack on the drivers side. Getting a new rubber mat that fits seems to be tough, at least in my neck of the woods. JC Whitney sells one that might fit with work, so does one of the offroad shops...
