We have an Eager Beaver 50T lowboy trailer at work that we don't know much about. It's an odd width (I think 8'-6" or 9') and the previous owner thought it was originally a military trailer. It's been re-painted and all data plates were scraped off. It sits low in front on our tractor - maybe it...
I have a pair of M103 trailers I use for firewood. I want to put duals on them to keep from sinking when loaded. I just picked up some old Deuce tires and rims.
1) Are the studs on the M103 the same as a Deuce? Is the Deuce the same as a 5-ton? I'm planning to use Budd caps for the duals.
2)...
Drive the inside tire up on a block and pull the outside dual only (the budd cap/nut system retains each tire separately)
If you are dealing with a car place that's already worrying about the weight of the truck, they probably won't have what it takes to bust those things loose anyway.
OUCH! Sorry to hear that Van. Truck looks great by the way. Your old M813 is on 14x20 rubber now - rear hubs flipped. When you're done hurting yourself I'll come get that wrecker too.
I just mounted 14's on my M813 (search my post for pics). I think they fill the huge front fenders nicely and don't look too big in the rear (I hate the way 16's almost touch on tandem rears). They keep more of a stock, yet capable appearance. I just hauled a 12-ton load, and learned where to...
I had to switch them to flip the hub. The inner bearing has a larger ID than the outer. OD is the same. What am I missing? You can't slide the hub onto the splindle with the outer bearing placed on the inside - it won't fit - too small.
I did read where someone had a truck that someone had...
It's kind of like when IH went rectangular headlights on the 1980 scouts, and when the rectangular headlights came out on Jeep Wranglers, only 10x worse!!
Here are some pics. Didn't get stuck today, but wheeled it pretty good. Wouldn't want to be the next guy dealing with those ruts. Tried to show the offset situation. Fronts come out pretty much flush with the fenders - rears are sucked in somewhat. I think not flipping the hubs and running...
I used HEMTT rims all around. The previous owner had installed longer studs on the front so I was all ready to go.
One other thing I had not anticipated - when the rear hubs are flipped, they are not the same width as the front - they are a few inches narrower. I mounted 14x20's - on the...
Isn't there a stength/safety sacrifice using this method? The recess in the hub is not deep enough for the budd cap "lip" to fully recess into, and is now a spacer between the mounting flange and the rim. The rim is not pressed against (and fully supported by) the hub flange. I could see...
Flipping 5 ton hubs
I just did mine. Not a difficult job, just heavy parts. Stuff I learned that I did not necessarily anticipate:
1) Don't count on getting inner seals at your local Fleetpride - they are not common to other big truck axles. Since they are so huge, I was able to pry mine out...
