New Starter for CUCV: Should this happen?

Sadly I bought a starter from DBElectric as well through E#ay. American seller, Asian part. My results were very similar. I removed it and had it tested as No Good. I was going to return it, and had arranged to do so with DB. However, after reading more here on the subject I had my factory...

    hard starting

Can you verify good stable pressure at your fuel filter supplied by your lift pump? 7 psi is in the ballpark iirc. Be careful with extended cranking, the starter will thank you.

    Gen 2 Very dim. Relay?

My 1008 has done this for over 2 yrs. It's consistent, and has never caused any problems. Anything above idle speed and it goes off.

how to check hydroboost.. goes right to the floor

Verify Power Steering fluid level. As it gets low it will pulsate while steering and braking as the Power Steering fluid gets low. Try to find and repair the leak if this resolves your problem.

    Weird occurence tonight

Load testing the batteries is always a good first step of verifying the foundation of the system. Verify grounds and battery cables. Be aware of fusible links, even though they normally fail without intermittent patern. I had the Fr. Batt+ to Rr Batt- cable fail, but only while under load. It...

Convert CUCV to 12v pro vs. cons?

Maybe you want to convert it to 12V to be easier, simpler, or common to other civilian vehicles? Maybe because the truck is new (to you), and you have not familiarized yourself with it yet? Do not be concerned with the stock 12/24V electrical system. Most that are have never read the TMs, or...

    Glow plug testing questions

If it has not been mentioned yet, be sure to look into the resistor bypass for supplying power to the GP relay. Still running AC 60Gs.

    Newbie M1008 Question - Computers

I guess the closest thing to a computer is the glow plug card, maybe? If you hate computers, ECUs, ECMs, PCMs etc you have made a good choice. No OBD trouble codes on these trucks. There is a link to the TMs in my signature that will help explain how these run with no computers.

More Pics of my M1008 Restore

Fine work, and great looking truck. I had been considering strain on my bed side boards. I think I might look into that when summer gets here.

    1009 Blue and Black smoke?

Filtering down to at least 5 microns is usually enough. There are several systems that people use here that achieve this level of filtration. Specific to the 6.2L many have had success cutting their diesel with WMO in reasonable % vs. ambiant temperature.

    1009 Blue and Black smoke?

After 3 or more full tanks of pure Diesel the WMO should be purged from the system. Try to run the tank almost dry before refill. I would not be concerned with smoke until all the WMO is gone. From my experiance prolonged excessive WMO% can decrease performance and make starting more...

replacing cucv flex plate, any easy ways??

This is where I'm at now. For anyone in this same situation and stranded with a truck that will not start: You can manually rotate past the bad section (missing teath) in the flexplate. I use a 1/2" ratchet and socket to rotate the crank at the harmonic balancer. This is the best option I have...
