I know this thread has gotten off track quite a bit from the original post, but I feel I need to clear a few things up for ya’ll. This may clear them up, or it may confuse you even more. This all deals with the NEC language, and even after all of these years dealing with it, I still get...
Ike, I am not disagreeing with you. Unbonding the neutral from the ground is a safe way to do it....if you are driving a ground at the generator itself. Also, the NEC is supposed to be the basic rules for any electrical work, if manufacturers or localities want to go above and beyond the NEC...
It would be a nice compressor none the less, but depending on what you are running, 15 CFM isn't a lot. My smaller shop compressor is about 10 to 12 CFM at 125 PSI, and it doesn't run my little blast pot very good...it'll get the blasting done, but I spend a lot of time waiting for the...
gunboy,
poppop may be onto something. the stock wires should be black wires, but they could have been bad and somebody might have changed them out. Follow them to where ever they go and see that they are hooked up properly, if they are, start looking into the turn signal switch....the brake...
Andy and the rest of you guys. I would have jumped into this discussion earlier, but I have been out of town.
GROUNDING!!!!!!!!! You DO NOT NEED to disconnect the neutral ground of the generator. You also DO NOT NEED to drive a ground rod at the generator! As a matter of fact, you should not...
OBC,
Ike is right, you're not going to get a generator for home use that will give you grid quality power, unless you run the output through a power conditioner. They can be had, I've never looked into prices, but I can't imagine they are cheap.
On the other hand, at least for the MEP series...
EO2NMCB, I'm happy to hear that you got a good one, and a "scrap" unit with no EUC is even better. I'm happy to hear that you find my posts helpful, I'm happy to share the little knowledge I have with anybody who would like to listen.
Carl, Keep watchin the auctions and trying...if you see...
yes, the military always under rates the HP ratings of it's engines. With some adjustment, you could probably squeeze at least 20 out of those engines.
The military under rates HP ratings of engines and over rates the needed HP for a specific load. But because of this, you'll never have to...
As long as you are holding the start switch in the start position, yes it does play a part in the rectifier board. Again, that's why the TM says not to hold it for longer than 15 seconds. In actuality, 15 seconds is a pretty long time when you actually time it.
I know what you mean about not...
The deuce takes 6tl's just like my MEP-003a generators. They are not as big in one dimension (length or width, you pick), but the group 31 batteries will fit inside of the battery box nicely. Any battery make you want to use will work. Personally I think the 1000 CCA is overkill, unless it is...
The problem was more than likely that you were running it at idle.
When you first start the set up, by moving the main switch to the start position you "flash" the generator field. This allows the generator to start producing power, from there out it is self excited, meaning it rectifies it's...
dittle,
I could be wrong, but I was always told to NEVER use ether on a diesel that has glow plugs. These sets have glow plugs as well as a manifold intake heater. I would think that can make a very dangerous situation for this engine, and possibly the operator????
And the work continues...
Well, today I continued on with my troop seat rebuild. After leaving the 395a dry for 2 days to get good and hard, today I primed all of the pieces, except for the hardware, which I still have to get. But they will be easy to prime up and paint since I only have to...
Andy,
Yes they do take batteries, but your's may not have them with the set, a lot don't have them any longer as they got swiped before or even after GL got their hands on them. Any two 12 volt automotive batteries that will fit in the spot where the batteries go will work...I suggest measuring...
Nice score. Glad to hear about a very safe recovery, It's good that you had time to give it a thorough inspection before pulling out onto public highways. I'm also glad to hear you had a trucking company on standby...that's smart!!!
Thanks for the vote of confidence atankersdad, I don't know that I know more than anybody on this site, but I do like to tinker with them, and playing with electrons is my job.
Like he said, Send a PM if needed, or post your question, I'll try my best to help anybody out.
