I wouldn't discourage anybody from getting one, they are way cool, and I love mine. But I would think twice about using it as your daily driver. Most of these trucks are old, very old. And not up to the safety standards of modern cars. The biggest safety factor is the brakes, there is no...
That's the ether bottle. There is a switch in the cab, during cold weather it gives the engine a metered shot of ether to help starting. There is also a thermostatic switch in the coolant manifold to disable it when the weather is warm.
Edit: There is a ton of information on the "Ether Start...
Welcome aboard, and like ARYankee said, just download and save the manuals and read them. Reference them when you need to and you can print just specific parts if you're working on something. That's the way I do it.
That's a good idea cranetruck, basically it's a poor mans MOV (arc suppressor).
Edit: for those who really need to know, an MOV is a Metal Oxide Varistor, typically you see them "paralleled" with a coil to suppress the arc created by the collapsing magnetic field when the power is taken away...
Unless they are putting something different in the tanks around here, at some of the truck stops along I-70, I can still get #2 diesel...it's a few cents cheaper than ULSD and runs just fine.
Mine seemed to do the same thing the first few times I started it. I'll admit, that my problem was operator error. It probably isn't the same problem you are having, but try hitting the starter button with the palm of you hand. You need to press firmly on the button, not hard enough to break...
Not if you check the trailer over pretty well, check the wheel bearings and make sure they are tight, lugs for tightness and have a set of magnetic lights unless you have a MV to tow it with. Also, look to make sure the rubber will make the journey
LOL...you wanna see thick, you should see some of the specialty grease we use in the mill. It's super high temp and waterproof (it's even green too). I swear to god, you could bounce that stuff like a rubber ball, it's that thick.
First Check the resources section, look for TM 9 6115-464-12 ,-24p, and -34. There is also a -10-hr and a lube order LO 9-6115-464-12. I don't know if any of them are in the resources section or not, but there are the ones you'll be looking for.
I know that this will get me blasted by at least a dozen people, but grease is grease.
Seriously, I'm no petroleum engineer, but there are about as many different types of grease as "Carter has liver pills" At work we use specialty greases formulated to withstand the intense heat generated by...
I know this thread is already a few months old, but when I pulled my transmission to clean and eventually replace the clutch, my jack-shaft bolts were loose as well. Some tips and tricks I used on mine were.
1) If they are loose, it only takes a few minuted to remove the passenger seat and...
That's kind of exactly what I was trying to get at...unless someone is openly bragging about doing something stupid, the other responsible members should have the chance to comment on what needed to be done to do it safely.
I grew up in those mountains, I know what you mean about some of those trucks. Sad to say though, I'm guilty of similar actions in my car. You become so familiar with them you get comfortable and sometimes a little too comfortable.
I'll be anxious to see your dolly project as I was thinking...
I agree with what Chris said in his post, there is no excuse for purposeful negligence!!! Driving without insurance is the dumbest thing any of us can do. If you were in an accident you could ruin some family's life forever, and without insurance, most likely you own family!!!!!
But on the...
swbradley1, well said. I'm sure most of us work in or are around situations where the quality of the bolts makes a world of difference. I know I am. Most of the things I see are from the engineers who design equipment, and use the smallest bolt with the most strength to keep things light and...
