Maryland HB1148 2020- Vehicle Laws - Military Surplus Vehicles - Registration and Operation

Goo d news and thanks for the update Ajax. I am across the Wilson Bridge and watching your progress with interest. If this initiative passes we can try to cite precedent in our neighboring State and perhaps sway VA. However the voiced opposition of the Chief of Police will remain a stumbling...

    15 tires? You got a 3-wheeled variant? :D

Known Manufacturers of HMMWV Soft Covers and Tops?

Thanks, their website is defunct, but I tried another online resource to reach out. If that seems to have not worked, I will try calling them. BDGR

Known Manufacturers of HMMWV Soft Covers and Tops?

Besides Breton Industries, does anyone know the company names of any other military (especially Humvee) soft top and cargo cover manufacturers? I am looking for a company interested in taking over making my soft slant backs. I just don't have time, but hate to think they would die with me (so...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

It's funny that when I was younger Japan-made parts were criticized. Now when I can find NOS machined steel parts made in Japan (U.S. being long-gone) I am happy to have them, given the Chicom alternative crap-shoot. (This is in the case of Harley parts, for my 1975 Super Glide.) BDGR

    Started my duramax conversion. Finally!!!

I'll sign up. Thinking the same thing for my 998 later this year, looking forward to watching yours. BDGR

Check the idler arm first, but check all the steering points. Might help to have the front end off the ground so you can observe the wiggling. On the older models the idler arm is the weak point, though it was corrected on A2's. Not good to have wonky steering. BDGR

    Just purchased 99 m998 and can’t start

Congrats on getting it running. Finish the preventative maintenance and put her through the paces. BDGR

Passenger seat won’t fit a grown man comfortably.

I'd be tickled to have those style seats. We use standard issue bleacher pads and weak springs for driver. I hope to have money for a seats upgrade mid-year. BDGR

    Thermostat

I used the auto parts store's Stant catalog and bought the t-stat for a Chevy Suburban diesel of the same year, 215F. Works fine for me. Can't recall if I was able to use the gasket if came with or form-a-gasket #2, been a few years. No issues though. BDGR

    CARNAC's Historical VIN INFO Thread

I apologize if I missed it mentioned, but I don't see M998 anywhere. Is there a separate thread/listing perhaps? Thanks, BDGR

    Jeepers and 5 Tons

Like AjaxMD I live near Wash DC and see plenty of trust fund babies and misplaced wannabe's in their blinged-out 4-door Jeeps and other assorted near-Jeep vehicles looking very smug. Few wave, though it seems like the amount of appreciation for my crusty M998 increases during Summer months when...

    Lds-465 Engine Knocking. AGAIN

I don't have a multifuel, nor a heaping helping of experience with diesels, but if it's that new and experiencing blow-by (and not the compressor as was ably pointed out) you might do a compression test. I do have other engine experience, and have seen improperly broken in rebuilds varnish the...

What are these 4 units behind the seats ?

Yep, Loudspeakers for radios. If you've no plans for them, or the mounting tray, or the cables or antenna bases/mounts, folks here will gladly take them off your hands (myself included). BDGR

    Replacing the CV Axles

+1 for locking the rotors (carefully). I've used everything from a wrench to a Craftsman screwdriver. Just find something that will bind it and proceed carefully. Some penetrating spray won't hurt, but be sure to clean it off the rotors after and try not to get it on the pads. You'll get 'em...

LED tail lights on the cheap

As I recall, the lower lamps are for blackout and backup lights. They should NOT be painted over, though you will likely never use blackout lights. BDGR

HMMWV WONT STAY IN LOW GEAR

The L versus H or HL is part of the transfer case. Could be several things, but the easiest (and most hoped for) is that the linkage is misaligned. Get under there and inspect the t-case linkage and get some pictures of the shifter as well. Since it has a 700R it has had shift linkage...
