Dang I hate to hear that. Do you think those defective Harland Sharp rockers were the culprit? If so you may have some recourse for recovery. Let me know if I can assist in any way.
Here's an update. Got the DB2891-4911 injection pump installed; got the new 6.5 injectors and injector lines installed; got the HMMWV crossover water thing installed; got the rear coolant plates installed; got the 700R4 TV bracket installed with rod to make sure everything cleared. Having...
Guys, I made the decision to pass on the HS rockers and timing gears because I did not want to “open up” that new GEP P400. It wasn’t due to cost because everybody knows I’m spending my last rodeo. My goal with this engine is to have a smooth cool-running and free-breathing reliable NA power...
Are you seriously considering this option? Leroy has the part on his page for $600 + freight. I actually considered installing a set but didn't think the Return On Investment was there. Do you really think it makes that much difference?
Well let's see, where to start for this update. I got my injection pump mounted. I purchased a completely rebuilt DB2831-4911 from Hucksdorf Diesel. This pump is rated at 200 HP and will fill my needs completely.
I also swapped sides with both valve covers so that the PCV opening would be...
Yes the FlowKooler clockwise pump arrived but I have not yet installed it. It appears to be an outstanding part. FlowKooler does not utilize used/reconditioned pump housings, but instead has their housings cast new at a foundry. The impeller is not cast but CNC cut from billet aluminum and...
Leroy is that you? Glad you finally made it over here to SS. Thanks for providing me the opportunity to own one of the last P400's available. And thanks for your help in assembling the parts. Stay tuned!
Rich I actually considered both options, but decided to leave my P400 intact as delivered from GEP. If I had planned to Turbo the engine, I probably would have installed the timing gear assembly and Harland Sharp rocker assemblies. But instead my goal is to have a strong reliable NA engine...
It all starts at post #198 of my rebuild thread. I decided to keep everything together on my original thread instead of branching off into a secondary thread. You can access my rebuild thread by clicking the link in my signature below. Thanks.
Does your "Wait" light come on when you turn the key? If so, that darn card is in there somewhere. The little box that it is in is smaller than you would think. The first time I was under my dash I overlooked it for several minutes before suddenly realizing that it was right there. If it had...
I'm still struggling with the decision to use or not to use the gaskets. I bought some Permatex Ultra High Temp Black Gasket Maker a few minutes ago and the instructions said nothing about using a gasket. Hoping more fellow SS guys will chime in.
I am swapping the valve covers side-to-side...
Hi everyone. I'm preparing to swap valve covers on my new P400 long block, and noticed that AM General did not use a gasket under the valve covers when they were installed at the GEP factory, but instead used some type of industrial-strength gasket sealer instead. Anybody have any idea what...
Ditto on what Richard said. It's a curse, one thing leads to another. If you doubt that, just read my rebuild thread. My project began as a simple hood replacement in 2010 and quickly spun completely out of control. The only way to insure reliability is to work backwards to Step 1.
Gimp, if you are gonna post a photo, you could at least post one big enough so everybody could see those teeny tiny Navistar marks. And something else, maybe not everybody even knows what those little marks look like. C'mon man. (LOL)
