November 14, 2018 Update - Got my 700R4 transmission installed. Installed a new Derale pan with cooling tubes. Installed a HMMWV temperature sending unit in the big bung but have ordered new AutoMeter gauges and will install the AutoMeter-specific sending unit in the small bung when it...

    Alternator Pulleys

Ken if you had your druthers, would you rebuild your original American-made AC Delco alternators or replace them with China-made units? (I think I know your answer, but just checking to see if you are awake).

Thanks Winston. Please let us all know how you get this thing to work.

factory tach install will it work?

OK here are a few close-up photos of my new Delco 4000 rpm tach. The little "switch" on the back is actually a plastic plug designed to be inserted or left out. Included in the Delco box with my new tach is a small brown folder with 4 of these plugs. Not sure why there are 4, as only 2 can be...

factory tach install will it work?

i opened the DELCO box today of my NOS 4000 rpm tach and discovered that switch on the back is not actually a switch at all. I believe I have it figured out and will post photos and my theory tomorrow.

M1028 Washer / Wiper intermittent malfunction

Mine does the same thing. When turning them off they don’t always return to “park” along the cowl. But then when I wiggle the stalk, they will then complete their cycle and go to sleep. So I just assumed it was a stalk issue and planned to take it apart whenever I had the time.

factory tach install will it work?

What I had intended to do, and still plan to do, is to temporarily wire the tach with it laying on a bench beside the truck and the truck running. I actually have 2 of these things, 1 older tach still mounted it a mid-1980’s cluster, and another NOS unit still in its GM box. Both tachs appear to...

factory tach install will it work?

i have one of those 4000 rpm tachs but haven’t installed it yet. If I remember correctly the plug on the back has 3 wires, one is a 12v hot, another for the tach signal, and the third as a ground. I’d suggest you make sure it is grounded properly. Also, there is a little switch on the back which...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Had my original 1984 AC Delco starter completely rebuilt and installed in on my P400 with new GM starter bolts and original bracket (sorry Rustystud). I figured it turned and started my 6.2 just fine for 26 years so maybe, just maybe, it would turn the P400 for a while. I temporarily wired a...

Kinda got carried away..... M1028 rebuild

Yes a Level 2 K-case 700R4 from Bowtie Overdrives in Hesperia, CA http://www.bowtieoverdrives.com/ The owner is Chris Gardner who owns and drives a M1008 as his daily driver and knows how to build/set-up a 700R4 for diesel application. I purchased a Level 2 from him which is rated for 450 HP...

optimizer long block - hummer 24V or cucv 24v

In my opinion Harland Sharpe should reimburse you, not only for the cost of the parts but also your labor and inconvenience. Not sure what recourse you have. Their response to your letter will reveal what kind of people they truly are. If they do not respond in kind maybe start a Go Fund Me...

    M1028 gear ratio swap input

In my opinion, a correctly built 700R4 is the wiser choice over a Gear Vendors unit (hereinafter GVU) for the following reasons - 1.- GVU provides higher final ratio to rear axle only; 700R4 provides higher final ratio to both axles simultaneously 2.- An inadvertent shifting into 4WD while the...

    HMMWV Starter

Thanks everybody for the opinions. I am leaning towards completely rebuilding/installing my original 1984 Delco 24v direct drive starter. I have come to the conclusion that a HMMWV starter will be too big and heavy, and the modern gear reduction units are made in China. My original Delco is...

Ken - GOOD CATCH! You are correct, the flange bolt heads are too high to clear the torque converter. Whew, that was close! I owe you a cowboy steak! I'm ordering the correct flex plate bolts now from Summit.
