    Ton rating

My 1988 M998, the tag says: Truck Utility: CGO/TRP CARR 1-1/4 TON, 4X4, W/E (HMMWV) Vehicle Curb Weight - 5200 Payload Maximum - 2500 Gross Weight Maximum - 7700 I assume the 1-1/4 ton is referring to the max payload of 2500 lbs.

Hose to air intake and random wire ID

Below the green in the first picture is the hose for the washer nozzle.. (there should be one on each side in front of the windows).. Other then that, I'm not sure. Sorry.

Potential for New Soft Doors HMMWV

I really need to new front doors, I couldn't find any way to get to this link w/o knowing the direct link. I'm willing to spend the $500 for the front doors but just concerned since I couldn't find a way here from the main page there really is no back order in progress right now.

    Humvee glow plugs

Lots of threads on glow plugs. But the easiest way to tell if what you have is counterfit or not is the size of the hex. Is it 3/8" or 10mm? If it's 3/8" it's probably real (I've read about both 12 and 24V plugs, 12V usually have spade connectors, while 24V are bullet style).. 10mm are...

    Best glow plugs

I've personally only seen 10mm plugs as Chinese counterfits. All the US plugs are 3/8" hex. I'm not against Chinese manufactured parts, as long as they clearly label it as such... but you counterfeit something, I'm calling it like I see it -- garbage meant to deceive.. See 10mm glow plugs...

    Best glow plugs

In the fall, I will remove at least one plug and verify it looks "reasonable". (Not swollen, not damaged.). If in doubt, it gets replaced. At $8 a plug, engine or start box damage is a LOT more expensive.

    Best glow plugs

Glow plugs I used are from MacMotors and authentic. The ones I removed from the block were Chinese knock-offs. They had the right thing stamped on them, but they failed early (installed by previous owner), and were 8mm instead of SAE, which made them really tough to remove from the block. Put...

I think my head gasket failed

ProMAXX screwed up, but I ordered from JEGS. It's not JEGS fault. I didn't want to order directly from them, as I have no past experience with them, but I do JEGS. So, I'll eat the return shipping, it's on me. And the ProMAXX rep got back to me that they will add to their notes the other...

I think my head gasket failed

For future reference, I can confirm you want the 'straight' not 'angled' HEADS for a 6.5L GEP NA engine. I've let ProMAXX know they told me the wrong thing, (no idea if they will care) and now I get to figure out how to return 140 lbs of cylinder heads.

I think my head gasket failed

Well I orderered the angled one. So if it's wrong, I guess I screwed myself and will have to pay to return them. We'll find out when they show up. I don't have the heads, they're at a machine shop somewhere else with the shop doing my work somewhere else. So if it's wrong, I'll have to eat...

    Purchasing new tires

I looked at the Wrangler Enforcer MT and would have bought them, but Discount Tire was able to order the Wrangler MT for me, keeping the original look on my 12 bolt, 1988 rims. I paid about $500 a tire (including shipping) for the actual military tires, new. (DOT code was less then 2 months...

I think my head gasket failed

Ya, that cost is exactly what I was trying to avoid. It was $600-$1200 for a shop to fix them, or $1000 for me to try the ProMAXX heads that seems to have a reasonable set of reviews (some bad, mostly good, almost all 'good enough for the money'). The heads should be here Friday or Monday then...

    2 man bulkhead?

Same, hardest part is getting my hand in there is turn them.. often times I will use a screw driver under the bulkhead to do the quarter turn.. then it just slides out.

I think my head gasket failed

ProMAXX claims they remove the chinese pre-cups as part of their machining and then once complete, installs new ones. (Pictures show the markings in the right place for the GM ones). But I'll see when they get here. If they don't look right, I can still take them to a machine shop and have...

I think my head gasket failed

There is signs that the gasket itself may have failed.. but it's a 'may have'. But I definitely have coolant in the exhaust, and exhaust into the coolant. There are no signs of cracks in the engine/cylinder walls. The heads were brought to a machine shop for inspection, and they found...

I think my head gasket failed

For future reference the casting number on my heads is 10137567 which appears to correlate to the AM General 5743222 in a parts compatibility chart I found. (Which is what I expected, as 5743222 is the AMG part they offer.) So it appears that the ProMAXX CHE856N is what I do need (angled bolt...

I think my head gasket failed

Ha, I completely missed the word 'plug' there. But I suspect that it's simply a typo, and they means bolts holes.

I think my head gasket failed

ProMAXX just got back to me and said to their knowledge all HMMWV are angled plugs which is CHE856N, which is the one out of stock.. So hopefully the casting numbers can shed light on it. Edit: Jegs has the 856 in stock, Summit the 855.. So once I get the casting number, hopefully one or the...

I think my head gasket failed

Great, so that means it is most likely the one pointed out by SmartDrug above. CHE855N. I sent an email to them and they asked for the casting number. I've got a call into my shop and they're trying to get the number so we can verify. But being in stock, that helps a ton and the price is in...

I think my head gasket failed

I'm seeing on ProMAXX site: CHE855N - https://promaxxperformance.com/product/gm-6-5-dsl-straight-new-full/ and CHE856N - https://promaxxperformance.com/product/gm-6-5-dsl-angle-new-full/ The later says "DSL ANGLE NEW FULL" "mostly found on GM 6.5 Diesel Vans and Hummers."
