The main reason I wanted to relocate the shock tabs, along with installing ORD's U-bolt flip kit, was to eliminate everything hanging down which could snag brush and rocks.
My injectors are brand new Bosch, and my glow plugs are new as well. Before I spend any cash for new ones, I will see if mine will fit and work in the 6.5. Hopefully somebody else with experience in this issue will chime in.
Bostic claims their engines are hot-run on a dyno for 45 minutes to...
Thanks Marcus, you hit the nail on the head. I am preparing to spend several thousand dollars of my daughter's inheritence to purchase, quite possibly, the last engine I will ever buy. I have been a faithful and paying member of SS for many years and cherish the wealth of information on this...
After researching the many builders/rebuilders of 6.5 engines, I now believe the best units are assembled by GEP (General Engine Products) at their 92,000 square-foot facility in Franklin, Ohio. GEP is a wholly-owned subsidiary of AM General which produces the Optimizer 6500 for the military...
Anyone have any experience with Bostic Motors in Bostic, North Carolina? I am considering purchasing one of their drop-in GEP Optimizer 6.5 long blocks to install into my M1028. Just wondering if any fellow SS members have used their services before, and if so, opinions please.
Thanks.
I used ORD's shackle flip on the rear with stock springs and am completely happy with the results and ride quality. Chaski is spot-on regarding the pinion rotation calculation. On my M1028, the 4 degrees of rotation seemed to be perfect regarding the pinion angle, however because I also...
I am preparing to fab-up an engine/transmission stand so that I can fully-assemble my new engine and 700R4 together prior to installing into my truck.
Does anybody know what degree of angle the 6.2 / 6.5 motor mounts are, as referenced from vertical or horizontal? Kinda wanted to have these...
Ummmm, what am I missing here? Why not simply install the same unit that GM shipped with the M1028, which is the Dana Trac-Lok? Works like a charm for me, no muss, no fuss. In my opinion nothing could be better, as both front wheels "pull" under power regardless of having traction or not, and...
For those of you with unlimited financial resources, I recommend a Fluidampr harmonic balancer. When I got my M1028 in 2010, it had been sitting on a National Guard base in Arizona for 25 years with the windows rolled up. The Guard members drove it approximately 500 miles a year on base, it...
Why not simply obtain a NOS flex plate on our favorite auction site? The GM part number is 14077158.
That is what I did. If my aching back will ever let me I am going to install my "new" 700R4 transmission in my M1028. While accumulating parts I bought a NOS plate and it is still sitting...
When I acquired my M1028 in 2010, the rear brakes were grabbing and locking up bad. My mechanic pulled the hubs and discovered severly defaced drum surfaces, so bad that new drums and shoes were going to need to be installed. The costs for repair were estimated to exceed $700, so I began to...
Guys, GM designed plastic splash guards specifically for this issue. These splash guards fit at the bottom and immediately behind the inner fender well on each side to prevent road water (spinning up off the front tires) from coming up behind the inner wheel wells and reaching the vents...
When I got my M1028 it had 12,338 original actual miles, however there was a little vibration I didn't like, so I purchased and installed a Fluidampr. The vibration immediately disappeared and now it is smooth as silk. The Fluidampr is kinda pricey but much cheaper than an engine overhaul...
Back in 2012 I pulled my pump and sent it up to Cincinnti Diesel Injection for a full rebuild. Can't remember the cost but think it was around $500. I used a vibrating etching tool to add my name and telephone number on the side of the pump housing to make sure I received the same pump back...
