    Soft Doors

I had good luck with convertible top window cleaner and I stitched both the zippers in my front soft doors back in, having gotten them cheap in that condition. A speedy stitcher is a nice to have, but not essential. The thread used in the originals is not so heavy as the wax twine used in...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Exactly. I was going to type that too. Check your tire pressure. Unless you’ve got other problems, I can’t think of a reason why it would be bouncy at 35mph. You can fill to 30psi or so if you’re not off-road a lot. The manual is 22-20, but that’s off road. Have you opened up your geared...

Inexpensive HMMWV Fuel Tank Drain Plug Replacement

Glad to help! Mine is holding up fine. I have no worries about it. Even if I have to destroy it to get it out, for some reason, I can go three blocks to Advance Auto and get a new one 12 hours a day. BDGR

2018 New Year´s Ride! January first

I tooled around in my m998 for a couple errands. She fired right up in 25F after ten seconds time for the glow plugs. (Two seconds longer than normal.). Drove fine and brought me home safe. Chilled though. I think I need to flush the heater core. Bulldogger

    Humvee Leaking Hub?

As you can see from the painful replies, it is always something coming up on these rides, but they make up for it in other ways. Welcome to the club. BDGR

    Humvee Leaking Hub?

Yup, pretty common. When this happened to me the advice was to just find an NOS surplus halfshaft, rather than mess with pulling the old one and dismantling it to put on a boot. It is MUUUUUUUUCH faster to replace the whole thing, and when I needed mine they could be had for a reasonable...

    Doghouse top pin

I also did the coat hanger repair and it's still holding over a year later. I'd have to look hard to remember which one it is by now. You could try this, using one of the other ones from the back seat or somewhere as a pattern and see how it goes. BDGR

Volt meter surges at start up

The 1-2 minute cycling is normal startup procedure. If it happens when the engine is hot, or lasts longer than 2m, only then is there an issue. Most refer to this as Afterglow Bulldogger

    Various M998A1 gremlins

Glad to hear you're back in the saddle... Issue 1: Sounds like the lighting control panel/switch is malfunctioning. Not an unusual problem, as there are a lot of contacts in there. Many have disassembled and cleaned them with good results. I would recommend you try. Do take care when taking...

    1994 M998 Strange oil pressure

On my 998 the sending unit is on the rear of the engine just inside the doghouse. Sounds like you're on the right path in terms of the maintenance you're doing. The repairs you describe, which might just turn out to be open / inspect are within the ability of a decent shadetree mechanic...

    Batterys

Amazon or other sources have 24-12 converters. I bought one from the brand called Pyle. They are not expensive and will save you from imbalancing your batteries. Bulldogger

    1994 M998 Strange oil pressure

Do the entire lube order if you can. It could have been a decade since some of those fittings or systems saw fresh lube. A new sending unit is a good idea. A cheap autometer gauge from the auto parts store will bring immediate piece of mind or tell you to stop driving at once. I did this same...

No troubles with mine. I'm confident in it still. BDGR

    Changing all 4 belts.

Stick with it. Yes there is one bolt that is extremely hard to see. Obviously you have to loosen that one too. A breaker bar once everything is loose is handy for pushing them to their maximum slack position. You'll get there! Bulldogger

    Thermostat gasket

+1 that's easy to do. I think everyone of us that's ever replaced more than one or two T-stats has had this problem. Bulldogger

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Will be interested to hear your results with the beadlocks and BBs. I don't ever expect to need run-flats, though I feel having them alleviates me needing to carry a spare (which I don't have, unless you count my M116A3 and I happen to be towing it at the time I get a flat!). I've thought...

Fun with PA DOT officer ending in putting me out of service + $1200 in fines

Sorry to hear of your unfortunate treatment from the DOT people in Pennsylvania. Different states have different rules, and different ways of enforcing laws and raising revenue. But, as I understand State-to-State dealings... You don't have to pay the ticket in Pennsylvania. You just can't...
