It seems odd for both the water pump and fan clutch to go out at once. Have you tried pressurizing the fan clutch w 90+PSI air? I think of them as fairly simple, and hard to break.
Sorry to hear about the water pump. That is annoying to get off. Common advice here is to bite the bullet and...
Do the easy thing and disconnect, inspect, clean and reconnect all connections involved first. Start with the battery box, assuming you haven't already touched that area. Most MVs are not "turn-key", they need refurbished nearly everywhere and periodic revisits. It's not Whether or not to...
The grounding harness many of us did, or will, install is a SUPPLEMENTAL harness to the existing factory harness for the most part. While some argue that it should be of a diameter and gauge that can handle the full discharge of two 24V deep cycle batteries, I went much smaller. I found wire...
I second Katavic918's description. Mine will shift as late as 28-30MPH but only if I have the go pedal mashed to the floor. I posted somewhere about it myself after getting my beast running and road-worthy and was told the same thing. In my case giving it an Italian Tune up seemed to help a...
Napa 81-1411
I can't remember offhand where I got that part number. Probably from the hummer knowledgebase. My Napa jobber was speechless for a moment after I gave him that part number to look up in his system. He finally spoke and said "I've never seen a part in our database without any kind...
Took apart my cadillac valve to try to get my fan working correctly again. Didn't see anything wrong w the valve internals but after bleeding all air from it and driving a few miles my fan is declutched now. Have to drive farther to see that it turns on at high temp.
So so far so good. I'll...
Like that new shifter Fllaw.

Amen brother. How they manage to put a (fun and capable) platform together that uses SAE and metric on the same part/component still confuses me

It does have a fair amount of rust, probably salty roads. It seems to be in decent condition overall. If you don't mind reconditioning the hubs and fighting some rust here and there, it can be a good truck.
The rear cover is nice, though plenty of dirt found its way in the front of the...
Thanks for the details gents. Looks like I will keep an eye on it and steel myself to replacing the head gaskets in the Spring (if she makes it that long!).

Action: yes, that happened as a matter of course when I was fiddling w the Cadillac valve as part of all that. Didn't appear to make a difference. Sorry to not mention it.
I'll try to blow out the valve. It could have picked up something when the return tubes and primary pressure tube were...
Well, here is what I figured out tonight. My fan temperature switch which is on circuit wiring number 458 is located in the coolant system crossover piping, which is normally closed, is closed when cold. So I think my fan temp switch is ok.
I verified that this switch is indeed electrically...
The fan was working fine before I replaced the steering pump and boosted the system pressure. (certainly steers like I have more pressure)
Retiredwarhorses, does this mean the system failed for some reason because I upgraded the pump? I assume I have to obtain a new replacement thermostatic...
I noticed after a few driving sessions following the installation of a new steering pump on my Humvee last weekend that the fan is always clutched in. This means that the fan changes speed with the motor. It also means the engine takes a long time to get up to operating temperature. It doesn't...
I have never bought anything with a credit card from government planet, but what many people don't know about buying something with a credit card is that whoever is accepting your payment has to pay between one and 1/2 to 4% to the credit card company . This really adds up , and it is what a...
If it is the water pump, you should see weeping or you will be able to wiggle the fan assembly on the shaft of the pump. It would be rare but it sounds like your fan might be coming loose from its mounts on the clutch. But again it should wiggle when the motor is off. If you don't have any...
