M1028 owner new to the community

Besides the 700R4, I know some have used a 4L80 to get overdrive.

How to get into Military Jeeps

If it is MASH the TV show you are referring to, I remember they had MBs, M-38s (and possibly a few m-38A1s, which would not be period correct for Korean war era, by a year or so, if I recall).

    Help with MEP-701A info

It is a MEP-016b with sound suppression kit on it. Not a bad gen, but is 3,600 RPM, 1 cyl Onan diesel. Would be good if you need a robust 3KW backup.

M1028 Washer / Wiper intermittent malfunction

Since this thread is back, I'll mention a new aftermarket pump & reservoir cost less than the new, cheap original style wiper motor. OEM junk yard ones cost even less, and are of better quality. And no wires were hacked in modifications I posted pictures of. Spade fittings on new pump wires...

M1028 Washer / Wiper intermittent malfunction

The problem with the mechanical pump, it is 60's tech and not in a good way, just a cheap engineering solution stacked on an older washer motor, (I remember cars and trucks that had some motor and no washer at all.) The plastic cam can strip, or become mis-alligned, the actuator solenoid can...

M1028 Washer / Wiper intermittent malfunction

What I do when washer fails is add a electric motor driven washer pump, I order pump and tank from slightly newer chevy, or better yet, find a late 80's unit in a junk vehicle. You do not need to replace motor, just plug two wires from washer pump to existing harness. It works better than...

    Starter ran off on me

Suggest OP takes cover off the relay, and see if contacts are fused or look fried, that should let you know if that was the problem. I suppose there are are other possible causes for this, but have never experienced them. If someone has messed up the steering column, perhaps the ignition...

    Fuel Gauge Mystery Continues...

From what I've seen, the "floating" fuel gauge is usually intermittent ground condition. Most likely the ground on top of the fuel tank where it is hard to get at. Not sure about that damper gizmo, never encountered one...goo or electronic.

    Fuel Gauge Mystery Continues...

A bad ground somewhere is usually the problem when things change when you turn on the lights.

    Fuel Gauge Mystery Continues...

The place where the cluster harness plugs into the plastic circuit sheet for the instrument panel sometimes requires cleaning, especially if there were ever mice living in there. That seems more likely place for problem than at the fuse box.

    Fuel Gauge Mystery Continues...

Two bolts and the two plastic hooks you have to pry back a little to separate. Not much room to work or see even then, unless you pull the harness. Good luck, got to say I have not ever seen any problems there except in trucks that had a serious short out or something. Let us know what you...

    Fuel Gauge Mystery Continues...

That shmoo is dielectric grease. If you clean it all up, might want to consider adding new on re assembly. I have seen contact problems in that area once though, it was on a high mileage civi K-30 that had probably already been taken apart there. The grease is there to keep moisture out of...

    Dump hoist and removable bed

That's pretty cool, a friend of mine wanted to get a commercial roll off rig installed on his 1078, but the shop told him the ones they have won't work because truck is too high off the ground. Does it load and unload OK? I'll have to show him this thread.

forgive me for i have sinned !

How civilized, I was in for surgery a few years ago, and they would not give me real coffee, but would give me caffeine free and a caffeine pill. They noted I was a regular beer drinker, I found out after I was out they had me on anti-anxiety meds during my stay. Heres to your speedy recovery.

My M1031 Contact Maintenance Truck project

Nice work. What bulbs did you use for those original lights? I have a couple that came with mine, with no bulbs, would prefer to convert them to LED also.

That looks like a CUCV key alright.

Break-In oil for the low hour MEPS

There are break in additives that could be added to 15-40, but probably hard to find in non-detergent 15-40, which is usually a diesel formulated oil.

Using brew kettle as load bank.

I'll have to look into that, but I am partial to the brew. When the cellar is cooler, I switch back to making lagers, which is my preferance, meantime, some summer ales.

Using brew kettle as load bank.

Thought it was time to exercise the generators again. Recently I installed tri clamp style water heater elements to my brew kettles to get away form having to use bottled propane. Mow I can put a steady load on the MEPs without using the house. I had a 4500 W 240 V element in today, which...
