Solution to M1031 generator control system using b4thundr Woodward Apecs controller

This manual has a diagram to reconnect for 120/240V 1 Phase in it. Diagram G on page 10. You will probably have to get a 1 phase motor for compressor and rewire plug panel on truck, but that is not too difficult. I made a "recconection box" out of a control panel for a MEP-018a which...

New member, New truck, lots to learn (4x4 and plow Q's)

They are good plow trucks, the locking rear differential is a plus. Like all pickups, they benefit from added weight in rear for snow driving, with plow or not. Remember plowing is pretty tough on a truck, and will usually 'use up' a truck sooner, unless you are careful about maintenance...

86 m1031 hard or no sart

I have slave jumped a CUCV with dead batteries and the bypass also, but it took several minutes for charge to build, if I recall. The charge delay would not be acceptable in military terms, no doubt. I guess I could test this for sure too, as I have CUCVs both with and without bypass. I'll...

86 m1031 hard or no sart

The resistor set up is for jump starting off another 24V vehicle, the way it is originally wired the glow system is supposed to work even if the truck being jumped has dead batteries. That is the theory anyway.

86 m1031 hard or no sart

Since you have not bypassed the big resistor on the firewall, and wired the GP relay to 12V, then yes, you could have ruined them by not replacing the whole set. The reason is that if one or more plugs are burned out, it increases the voltage to the ones that are still good. By bypassing the...

    M1008 dragged home today...

Above is picture of one installed in one of my 1008s. It is fed from heater core and goes into inlet on crossover. It works very well.

Mep-002a Start but runs rough when load applied.

In your video, it looks like there is a fuel leak on one of the injection lines.

Why is my headlight fuse melting?

If you want your horn circuit to work again, try cutting the diode up by the horn relay (above the fuse box). It was part of the military radio suppression equipment, and known to fail, keeping horn relay on full time. There are threads on this subject also.

Starter problems or more than that?

That may be, but I put crank kit in a 82 6.2 K-30 (along with new oil pump and replaced glow plug damaged piston) and ran it for 10 or 12 years, truck still runs, but parked out back due to rust. If I recall, I had the motor out because of a rap due to sucked glow plug(bought the truck that...

    Mep-002a resurrected... mostly

Run out that oil laced fuel on the load tests you should do anyway, add more clean diesel as tank runs down. If smoke level goes down, your probably OK. If you still have problems, sounds like you should re check the timing and/or timing button, as you mentioned.

Marvel Mystery oil, or any other oil in fuel make added smoke.

    A couple starter questions

There are two types of starters, the original direct drive 27MT and the gear reduction 28MT. There is a visable difference in the windings on the 27 MT between 12 and 24V starters. I recently had several 28MTs apart for bulk rebuild session (I have many trucks with 6.2s, including a few 12V...

    M1008 Not Reaching Running Temp

If you want to check the thermostat, take it out & put in pot of water on stove with thermometer. Running any motor below operating temp will eventually cause failure. The lube system will not work as designed and the combustion will be off. I buried a straight 6 Chevy gas motor on Rt 80, (in...

    M1008 Not Reaching Running Temp

My guess is the thermostat is bad or the wrong one, even if it is new. If you do a lot of driving in colder temps, especially short hops, some cardboard or a 'winter front' won't hurt.

    Gen light issue

As suggested, it could be a voltage regulator. Another mechanic I know who maintains several CUCVs had the gen light strobing, he told me it was solved by replacing the voltage regulator, it was over charging, but it also fried the other alternator, or at least it died during the overcharge...

    MEP002A just stopped running

Remember there is a screen in the top of those Facet pumps , 7/8 wrench will loosen the top, easy to check & clean.

    Uneven brake pad wear

Sometimes the flex lines will collapse internally and cause front brake caliper to seize. The caliper is condemned when it was just the 15+ year old rubber in the flex line. That is a good reason alone to replace them (the flex lines) when you do a brake job and they are over 10 years old...

M1008 Rubber Fuel Hoses Sizes Lengths and Clear Poly Replacement

Probably you know this, but your 1008 was originally filled with DOT 5 silicon brake fluid, which does not mix with DOT 3&4.
