    6.2 Diesel Compression Check

It is important to have uniform cranking speed though compression test. My guess is the motor is fine, it is good to learn how to do a compression test, and be proactive about maintenance. But in my experience, it is better not to over think it if the truck is running well.

    Newly aquired m1009...wiring issues

Maybe check condition of cable that feeds starter. Sloppy starter installation could have it hitting the heat shield or something. Sounds like there is a short somewhere.

    Oil lines to rad

The threads are different on aluminum oil cooler lines for the earlier (82-83)civ 6.2s. So you know to save some frustration at the junk yard.

    MEP-803A in storage 14+ years

I can run the house almost as normal with a 002 or 802. Can run water pump, laundry, oil fired boiler for heat & water, dishwasher, multiple freezers and a window rattler or two no problem. Have replaced almost all my light bulbs with Cree LEDs. Propane cloths dryer and cook stove, helps, if...

    MEP-803A in storage 14+ years

My 802 runs up to and settles out at 190*, I thought that was about right.

MEP002A No Power Output and Guages Not Working

Maybe the little DC breaker on the panel? I forget if that shuts down the motor, or just the power, been using the 802 more lately.

    DOT 5 brake fluid questions

DOT 5 also gets clear, amber after a while in the system, it is possible the beeding it is water, as DOT 5 does not absorb moisture the way DOT 3 & 4 do. It may have been blended and needs to be flushed. If the truck was in local govt service or privately owned, the fluid is is likely to have...

    CUCV wiring advice

At least you do not need the glow plug resistor. Just run 12V to glow plug relay. I even got one 1008 strait from GL this way, and have since bypassed it on most of my other trucks to avoid cascading glow plug failure.

MEP-803a runs great, makes power, circuit interrupter and battle short inoperable

Glad to hear it Martin, as I sent you in this direction in the first place. Jon Did you use a transfer switch or interlock set up? I know you said you had an electrician hook it up.

    Transmission leak repair costs...

The only reason I would consider leaving it alone if it works well and is low miles ( a couple of my trucks with less than 20K on them) is the questionable quality of many of the replacement parts these days. So many times what is available is imported 'stuff' that will never last as long as...

MEP-803a runs great, makes power, circuit interrupter and battle short inoperable

Hi M. Are you just trying to test voltage regulator? Looks like your getting way into this. Is something not working, or are you just pre testing before it is hooked to house? When I tested my 802, I just put load on the lugs in 120/240 mode and ran it for a while.

    Transmission leak repair costs...

The other way of going about it is to have tranny "rebuilt" and replace torque converter, if you are paying to have it out anyway. If it high mileage truck and or if there are any shifting problems, this is the way I'd go. But if it is all original, low miles and shifting great, I'd probably...

    Coolant not recovering

It may be normal, but maybe keep an eye on it to see if it gets worse. A failing head gasket will sometimes pressurize cooling system and push water out of radiator into recovery tank. I had this on one of my 1028 work trucks this summer. Drove it with the radiator cap off as it got worse...

    Doghead Starter Relay Mod Question

You want a 12V relay anyway. As for lettuce, Salad, beverages & outdoor cooking is the way to go in this weather.

    My 43 GPW

Nice Jeep. I had a 43 MB when I was a kid. Wish still had it, but it was rusty even then. Good to see anther one saved. I also went with 15 in CJ rims and the largest stock tire that would fit the rim. Looks similar to what you have anyway. Probably the best and easiest modification to...

Brake Fluid Problems - Mixed DOT 5 and 3?

Dot 5 is usually light purple when new, and turns clear over time. That red stuff floating on top looks like it could be ATF. Is it oily? If so, you may have to do more than flush the system. When I mixed dot 3 & 5 (a long time ago, so I could get home with brakes) it cause the calipers to...

    Thoughts on this M1028A2

Nice truck. I'd consider adding dump function to that bed.

MEP-003A"Reconnection Switch" and Large Transformer (I Think)

Above is my experience also, I have an 003 that came with a newly installed reconnection switch from the military. It never did work right, ended up replacing the whole box, after many hours of trying to sort it out.

MEP-003A"Reconnection Switch" and Large Transformer (I Think)

The above probably answers your question, but I believe the flat spot on switch is facing down in 120/240. Might be best to not turn the switch if it is in position you want. Older switches tend to get stuck in the position they were most used at in past and it can be a pain to get them to...

    question on 1031 pricing ..

Without having seen it, a rust free, unmolested 1031 is probably worth between $6,000 and $12,000. I know that is a broad range, but that's my opinion based on ones I have seen for sale and sold lately. The few that have come up on auction lately have been pretty rough. Might have a hard time...
