In general, I agree with the 'if it is not broke don't fix it' approach. But since the OP had the low oil issue, I would still recommend checking things out, especially the oil pressure.
It is not too expensive a job to put in a new 'crank kit' (reground crank with matching bearings) (always...
I keep my MEPs in a shipping container most of the time, and put them on slab when I think I might need them. Like I just did because of this storm.
This does require a machine with forks though. The only problem with the tarps is they do not keep out the mice. A plywood box might be a...
If you can get it running, a manual oil pressure gauge should give you some idea of bearing condition.
You could have a sample of the oil analyzed to see if it has bearing metal in it.
New batteries can be low on charge too, maybe even bad. Only way to know for sure is to charge and load test them.
Otherwise, the worn starter would be a good first guess. The bushings get sloppy and the armature windings rub on the field coils, slowing it down, drawing more amps.
Does the...
Had seat time with 6.2 and SM456, in a K-30 duelly dump. Pretty sure it had a 4:56 like the CUCV. Have three CUCVs converted in same configuration, I think they drive better. In casual driving, you have to run up the RPMs more between gears than with the TH400. That would be fine if 6'2s...
Having run some civilian 6.2s, I'd say this motor is generally better off with an automatic. The torque converter helps with the general lack of torque. The SM465 is pretty much a 3 speed with a granny gear, so it does not help with that much. If you were going to go manual, 5 gears would...
No Speed sensors on CUCVs, or related modern electronics, that is what many of us like about them.
Mg's suggestion to check vacuum though to modulator is a good one on the shifting.
The speedo heads have been known to fail, and are fairly easy to replace. First check that speedo cable is...
Have been running AC 60s in multiple trucks for over 5 years and these seem durable. Some of my trucks have manual glow, and the self limiting aspect of the 60s is good for that. Usually pay under $9 plus shipping at rock auto, but if you order 4 or 5 sets, the shipping per set gets reasonable.
Lots of people just plug the fuel pressure sensor hole with a bolt and JB weld. The 'authorized repair' on these was to replace fuel filter base with a new one without the sensor and no sensor hole drilled though. If you use an STE-ICE, you may want to keep sensor, otherwise it is just a...
Here is a project I made for my my 1031. You can also just re wire the 12 leads to a 120/240 configuration. Only problem with that is you would need a 1 phase motor for compressor.
Running a 6.2 to power a house uses lots more fuel and moving parts than an MEP though. The original 3 phase...
AC 60s have proven to be a more reliable plug than the Wellmans. Best if you replace in sets.
1. If glow plugs are working, 10 seconds usually is enough, a little longer if it is very cold out. If you run glow plugs too long, they can burn out, although the AC 60s are somewhat better in this...
Pretty sure the 1009 seats fit. That is what was used in the 1010 also, which has the same floor as a pickup.
I guess they are more supportive than a bench seat, maybe a little more comfortable.
