I typically paint Gillespie at the recommended 4:1 ratio and use Xylene like everyone else. I have thinned it as much as 1:1 without issues.
I shoot it with a cheap Harbor Freight paint gun...
Steve's book is excellent, I can not say enough good things about it.
I am doing a pretty complete rebuild on a '42 M2A1 and the only component I haven't gone through (yet) is the rear axle. I've done the front axle, both gearboxes, the engine, the brakes, new tracks, etc.
Steve's book is...
I wanted to make a quick post and let everyone know where we're at. I know we're only 5 months out from the typical rally time and people need enough time to get off work. We're doing the best we can - the rally doesn't pay any of us and we're all busy with jobs and family, so it's hard to...

Thanks for all the technical assistance. I'll make sure the client understands to keep these on a tender, never let them discharge and consider moving to a two-battery setup

Getting closer. Ceramic coated manifolds.
I rebuilt both the starter and fuel pump
Engine
First primer going on. Southern Polyurethane's excellent epoxy.
First coat. PPG's Omni (house brand) line of urethane. Has one part flattening agent.
I'm operating at the limit of my old Snap-on engine stand. Flipping this over isn't fun.
So Mac and I have been working on a replacement location and we have a couple potential candidates. I'm sending Dave (u/rustyjunk) to recon it next week. We've spoken to the facility management and they're excited to have us but there is a substantial fee that the rally would have a hard time...
Yes, Mac and I are working on this. We've been to multiple sites, in person, trying to find something that would make everyone happy.
The amount of time it takes to put this on is mind boggling. There's so much time in it behind the scenes that no one sees. Just getting our lawyer and D-town's...
The vast, vast majority of that kit is not going to be used for the head gasket job.
You'll only use:
Head gaskets (x2)
Road draft tube to valve cover gasket (x1)
Valve cover gaskets (x2)
Water manifold gaskets (x6)
Intake and exhaust manifold gasket (x1 I think)
Turbo to exhaust manifold...
At the end of the day, they could tell you to leave. It's their facility and I think the argument "oh hey, we just all happened to show up on the same weekend" probably wouldn't fly.
To be honest; no, I had not considered that aspect.
When I stopped judging at Mopar Nationals a long time ago, I asked the uppity-ups why they insisted on doing it in August when it was always 105° and the answer was simple: "It's been the 2nd week of August for 20 years. If we changed the...
So, I'll let the cat out of the bag.
Right after the rally, I emailed D-town and asked for a date. There was some back and forth with D-town about the hunters complaining about the noise but honestly, I've heard that from them for 10-12 years.
Then out of the blue they send me an email. I'll...
I had to get someone to help me get started, 40 year USA/GAARNG A&P for Huey, Blackhawk and Chinook models. He explained the twists per inch and everything. Showed me a lot of tricks.
Thanks for all the kind comments. I am finishing up the engine now.
Hopefully soon it'll run soon.
Man, burn.
That's some of my first safety wire work. I am getting better
The factory safety wire work wasn't much better
