    Split brake system

Like I posted, go with the "dual brake" system the Air Force deuce's used. It is a true split system and has worked great for decades now. One "dual" master cylinder (just like modern trucks today) with two brake boosters. The boosters put out over 800 PSI . More then any brake wheel cylinder...

    Split brake system

Total agreement here. I don't know why anyone would want to go to that much expense when the Air Force deuce dual brake system works great.

    Allison AT1545 failures

There are several combinations of transmissions you can order from Allison. Many ordered a "drop box" which is a reduction unit with front and rear outputs optional. Basically a built in transfer case. They use Helical gear to gears in them so they need the "heavier" weight oils in them. They...

    Bumper-pull camper behind a deuce?

I also want to take a moment and thank "cattlerepairman" personally for helping me find that rare TM 9-8623 manual. He went and made a copy of one that was up there in a Canadian museum. Thank you Martin ! I had been searching for that manual for almost ten years now. Really made my day to...

    Bumper-pull camper behind a deuce?

Yes ! That looks like the one, or near enough. Also there was a "Air/Hydraulic" unit that supplied hydraulic brake fluid to larger trailers that originally had hydraulic "surge brakes" . It was very expensive though. Like over $1000.00 .

    Allison AT1545 failures

I never said the military was the only ones who could use engine oil. I know Allison OK'ed the use of "Special" C-4 rated oils in "off-road" transmissions, those that used Helical gear to gear drives in them. The also allowed the use of C-4 oils in "Desert" conditions under extreme...

    Bumper-pull camper behind a deuce?

There was a kit several years ago that did just that. I cannot remember the companies name, though you might find it with Google.

M35a2 air compressor upgrades and air governor leaks?

I forgot to add, you should reconsider mounting your air governor to the firewall instead of the compressor. Most manufactures mount them to the firewall due to vibration troubles. The governors can get "upset" getting vibrated all day long and start to act up. Just my two cents worth.

M35a2 air compressor upgrades and air governor leaks?

How much faster does this compressor fill your tanks ? Are we talking twice as fast ? Looks great though ! If you decide to make and sell those adapters I will buy one from you ! I have three NOS compressors for the deuce, but I might just sell them off and buy one of these new "Haldex Tru...

Engine Turns - Will not Start. Smoke from Instrument Panel

Exactly what he said !!!! Your truck not starting will not matter if you burn it to the ground. A lot of people have a misconception about "metal" vehicle's not being able to burn down. Kind of like the crazy conspiracy theory of the "Twin Towers" not being able to burn due to the fact they...

    Allison AT1545 failures

Thank you "glcaines" for this excellent information. We as a community need to spread accurate information about our vehicles if we are to continue as the "main" source of military vehicle knowledge. Also your practical information about converting your AT1545 back to the proper fluid and how it...

    In Tank Fuel pump replacement

As long as it excepts a 1/2" fuel hose and is 24 volts it should work just fine. There should only be two wires. One power and one ground.

    Allison AT1545 failures

Floridianson look where they allow this use though. Here's the page from the MT600 series you posted about. You see their use in "drop boxes" which have helical gear to gear contact.(special C-4 rated SAE 30W weight only) . You see them in "slow speed" "off road" applications, (again special...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Civilian models had the cab light above the rear window and the floor lights. At least we have the floor lights. I was thinking about adding a cab light at one time. To much trouble trying to run a wire through the cab walls.

    Allison AT1545 failures

I decided to post a picture of the "innards" of an Off-Road Allison so people can see what I'm talking about. Sorry it came out at a funny angle, but you can clearly see the gears are helical gears just like a manual transmission uses. Also these transmissions do "not" go over 20 MPH on...
