Making a deuce a reliable daily driver? Help make a to-do list?

So, I've been thinking about the best way to make sure that a deuce is a reliable daily driver. I'm trying to make a 'To Do List'. Because I don't know the history of a vehicle that I buy, I usually replace all the fluids as a start, but this heavy equipment being 50+ years old, and not knowing...

    WMO in CUCV

I hate to necro a thread, but I did WMO in my CUCV.... and I figured I'd share my results. I'm going off of memory from about a decade ago, so I might be remembering things a bit wrong. I used random oil from friends, that comprised mainly of 5W30 and 10W30, along with ATF and my own 15W40. I...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Just an FYI, the Solargizer is a desulfator/maintainer, NOT a battery charger.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Charge the battery asap. A discharged battery left discharged will be permanently damaged in short order.

    Seal between NP208 and TH400

Also, off hand, anyone know which line on the trans, and trans cooler, are in/out? I'm trying to flush and check for flow restrictions. Thanks.

    Seal between NP208 and TH400

I've been tearing through the TMs, and MULTIPLE times, I go to look for a part, and it shows, let's say, 1-12 parts labelled in the figure, but will only display parts 6,7, and 8.. Look in the index, and same thing. This has happened numerous times, and it's driving me insane. I can't trust...

    Weight of M1010 ambulance body

Good luck. They're one of the rarest CUCVs, just behind the M1028A2 in terms of rarity.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Hardly. Removed the engine/trans from the wrecked M1009.

    Weight of M1010 ambulance body

It's steel framed and aluminum skin. You can get a rough idea by looking at the curb weight of the M1010 vs the M1008 M1010 Curb Weight 7370 lbs M1008 Curb Weight (Total) 5900 lbs (2679 kg) distributed 55% front/45% rear If we assume a truck bed weighs about 500 lbs, that would...

Talk Me Out of My Fascination With Owning an LMTV

Everything is electronic. A sensor malfunctions or fails and you'll be in limp home mode, about 20 MPH. Replacement parts are expensive. Yellow engines are expensive.

    Air Force M35 differences?

I'm looking at a 1987 M35A2... I've been told that all of the 87's were on an Air Force contract. What are the differences between the older pre-87 m35A2s? I've heard they have a knockout for landing lights, a heater, an air lock front axle, and a dual circuit brake system. Is that true? What...

    Overland 5-ton camper with a 20' container (now 40' !)

I got sucked into .mil vehicles because I wanted a diesel vehicle, and kept seeing these olive drab K5 blazers go for stupid low money because some idiot converted it to 24V and put a big brush guard on it... oh.. wait.. what? 24V ? Who would do that?!. Wha... why does that look like a factory...

I finally started working on my M934 interior..

Like most grand ideas..... Plans changed, and I sold the truck... Between a 30ft+ truck, only 12ft of the box really being usable due to the side doors, and 5 MPG, I reevaluated. I then started realizing the XLWB was horrible offroad, prone to getting high centered, the added weight wasn't...

    M1009 LED Problems

It's not 6v, it is 12v, it uses the high side as a path to ground through the front park/turn bulb. So, when the parking lights are on, it's solid. When the turn signal and parking lights are on, the side alternates. Essentially, it's not wired to ground and park, it's wired across the parking...
