Bed removed, spare tire elevator removed, batteries relocated to behind the rear axle, air tanks & dryer top side, spare rearward, fuel tank outta the way. Lots of details.
The 1078 shows a little over 9000 miles; I took that with a grain of salt. Recently I had a Detroit No-Spin installed. The technician at the differential shop says the wear on bearings & gears is consistent with a very low mileage unit. Lucky, I guess.
"I honestly don’t know why anyone sticks with 4 batteries. Even when I lived in central NY (plenty cold) never needed more than 2. My 923 and LMTV are and always will be 2 batteries. Just my 2 cents"
I'm thinking that if one is winching, or has an adventure rig shelter using capacity then four...
Interesting how Big Trucks became a rally class: The rules state that if you receive mechanical assistance from your pit crew, then you are out of the race. However, competitors can help each other on the course.....so the service trucks became competitors.T4 is now one of the most popular...
Allocated a laptop to the LMTV; its an older model Compaq with an unsupported Vista operating system. Perfect for viewing the 10,435 pages of TMs that I loaded on there. Shortly after that, I used the TMs. I just finished stripping off all that stuff between the cab and the bed so the fabricator...
I was thinking of segmenting the bed for different reason: so it would flex abit. The lore is that skid, or subframe is there so the bed DOES NOT FLEX...but I want it to.
Just so y'all know: I am enjoying immensely learning what all these hoses and wires do. Following the circuits, putting on little labels, getting smarter. So, yeah, I appreciate the knowledge sharing.
Don't know if my truck is typical: the cab air bags do not inflate until AFTER the air tanks are charged.
I have some work to do on mine as the cab bounces like the truck has a flat tire. Pinned it for now (and control knob turned CCW).
I just purchased one ( thanks Steve6x!). The local differential shop will install it if I bring them the 3rd member. Technically, that should be easy. Practically, we'll see. I get the truck off camber often, its a must-have for me.
The truck is also teaching me that one cannot simply purchase an FMTV surplus then just hop in and drive it around. Its alot of work. Keeps me entertained as I am fascinated by the complexity of the hydraulic and pneumatic systems: I wonder where this hose goes.....
