    M1078: un-build thread.

    Plan is being executed for the roll cage fab, may as well share how stuff comes apart then goes back together. A stripped out cab is en route to the fabricator (thank you, NV555). When the cage is finished, will swap the modified cab with mine. No need for me to wonder what to do with my...

    What would a LMTV completed run? Pic enclosed Also where do you find the hood racks

    Hi Seth, could you please estimate a dollars spent ratio: truck chassis/living quarters ? I'd like to get a sense of how much resources the LMTV chassis alone will consume, without the expedition stuff.

    Oh, you/ll find another MV, it gets in your blood. So don't discard any TMs or spare parts, you'll need 'em later :)

    PSI at the Glad Hands?

    There's a fella in Montana who figured that, well the body temperature of a chicken is 99 degrees, so if he puts six chickens under the hood of his truck on cold winter days then that's, like, 600 degrees. Should start right up.....

    What would a LMTV completed run? Pic enclosed Also where do you find the hood racks

    There is a big truck fan, user name "Joaquin Suave" I think, who gave excellent advice on those building an adventure rig: "In your backyard, build a plywood box the same size as your planned shelter. Live out of it for a couple of weeks, see what you think of the idea."

    What would a LMTV completed run? Pic enclosed Also where do you find the hood racks

    I am not shy about saying that I paid $15,000 US for my 1078. Before I purchased it, I saw it sell at auction for $7700 + buyers premium+ transportation as a non-runner. The buyer flipped it to me with a clean AZ title, 4 new batteries, turret cover, 5 high tread Goodyear MVTs, functioning CTIS...

    Isn't this where somebody says: "Oh, you can get them at auction in Hawaii or Guam for, like, two thousand dollars."

    Shelter identity

    The aluminum ladders aren't that bad to move around, or that fella is doing the work of two men. I've been told that I do the work of three men: Moe, Larry, and Curly :)

    What have you done to your FMTV or LMTV today

    made the truck 1% lighter Just by removing the rearward airlift outriggers at 82.4 lbs each. Daaaaaang. update: the fronts are 62 lbs each = almost 300 lbs total. Payload that can be used for something else, tools perhaps. And lots of Locktite ;)

    stowed the panels It took some messing around to get them to fit. The "receptacles" are not of uniform size. The tailgate cannot fit in the top slot because of the hinge. Worked out, eventually.

    LMTV-->Rally Truck clone/poser/wannabe build thread

    clarification on the intended use of the wannabe For nearly 30 years I have been running AZ trails e.g. Chiva Falls and Charleau Gap with the same bunch of "jeep guys". Initially with a Series 2 Land Rover (what a piece of crap) , the last several years very successfully with the modified CUCV...

    LMTV-->Rally Truck clone/poser/wannabe build thread

    I actually do want to have a chance to survive a rollover, so the rollcage will be "real". The pics of LMTV cabs crushed like a beer can is pretty convincing. I am not going to race the truck, however it will see offroad driving in adverse conditions.

    LMTV-->Rally Truck clone/poser/wannabe build thread

    11_19_18 update Thank you for the kind offer, though I already have an extraordinarily talented fabricator: http://arizonajeeparmorrocksliders.com/ I agree with the notion that safety is first. So, the thought is to build a roll cage in the style of a "capsule". If the seats ( therefore the...
