    HMMWV wheel backspacing?

Yeah, Chaski, "the trail" told me when to quit cutting. I need the big openings as I plan to go with 40's + take two inches of lift out. Otherwise it won't fit in the garage. You can sorta see in the avatar that the suspension uses all the available space.

Re-wiring the whole truck: enough is enough

Yes, I am considering integrating the custom dash at roll cage installation. They will place openings for whatever I choose, so need to design carefully to maximize the benefit for the cost.

Re-wiring the whole truck: enough is enough

Yes, its a great idea, I've done that before with a Bradley kit (the gull wing sports car, not the tank :0)

Re-wiring the whole truck: enough is enough

I am wiring the Blazer head to tail. Too many instances of a run of wire to a hand- crimped butt splice to another length of wire to a taped termination. Wires that go into a harness but don't come out. Connectors that don't connect to anything. For my application , reliability is King...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I have heard that 5/4 of the population does not understand fractions....

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

lights today Got the LEDs wired up. Still pondering the turn signal arrangement. The dominant thought in my little brain is to mount, not sure where, a pair of the 4 inch square LED lights, with a removable amber cover on the front, wired to the turn signal circuit. Turn signals on-road...

    NP 208 transfer case brace

I like that strut-rod-thing. I even like it in pink. My thoughts are to do the xfer case clocking thing, to get it up out of the way. That would not solve the driveshaft-banging-in-to-it problem, would still need the rod, but a dimensionally (and chromatically) different one. Caterpillar yellow...

    M1009 Speedo way off...FIXED.

    Slip Yoke Engagement - NV4500

Maybe its just the Skyjacker springs on my truck, but the pin that holds the rear leaves in alignment isn't centered front-to-back. With a 4 inch lift, the driveshaft was too short. I remounted the spring packs the other way 'round (pushing the axle forward), now it's just right. I reckon I was...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

There was method to the fender cutting madness, you see, I am fascinated by those "arctic trucks" use in Iceland. If I ever decide to go with fat 49's then I'll need some Godzilla fenders. I used a front fender from an M35A2 as a template for the cuts, so four of those can be welded right...

wiring "No wonder it doesn't work, its plugged up with wires nyuk nyuk." Before purists go crazy, this truck is repurposed, not restored. I'll not be going back to stock configuration as its way too late for that :) When I want a stock CUCV, I can always buy one from cucvrus, no worries. As the...

    37" Humvee Spare Tire?

now I run wheel + tire Now I do run radials, I like the way they flatten out and conform to the rocks. The other guys have trouble with sidewalls tearing out, I haven't yet. Even though I could change a tire in the field, turns out that in 100 degree heat I don't want to. So now I have the...

    If I was an electron.....

Two atoms were walking across a road when one of them said, "I think I lost an electron!" "Really!" the other replied, "Are you sure?" "Yes, I 'm absolutely positive."

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

studying the wiring diagrams I recall a famous line from 3 Stooges episode (A Plumbing We Will Go), Curly grabs a length of electrical conduit thinking its a water line : "No wonder it doesn't work, it's plugged up with wires, nyuk, nyuk". As I repurpose the GND bus to a +12 V bus, I encounter...

    If I was an electron.....

Yes, I recall that from high school vocational training : "Holes are positively charged quantities of nothingness that move oppositely of electrons." OK. Anyway, this is what I'm doing, under construction still. The wires that went to the ground bus are now attached to the passenger side frame...

The trail tells me what to remove

Yes, its OK here, I avoid mud like the plague: You could have twelve wheel drive and get stuck in mud :( I saw pix elsewhere on this site where a fella got his 5-ton stuck in mud, so went to get his other 5-ton to pull it out, got both stuck. That was enough convincing for me. As far as...

    If I was an electron.....

would I care if I completed my circuit through the chassis or the firewall mounted ground bus ?
