    M1008 Power Steering Trouble Shooting

First check your power steering fluid. Next make sure the power steering bracket is completely in tact and not cracked or broken. Is the belt tight? I think it sounds like a fluid issue. Report back on your findings. Be Safe.

    CUCVRUS Repair Projects

I was outside on the peak of my barn roof sanding and painting when I seen a Marmot emerge from the fuel filler of my M1010 lawn mower shed. No picture of the Marmot. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marmot But I did want to keep that varmint out of my shed. I cut a piece of Dura Plate and screwed...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

Today was a busy day thus far. I was out working on my barn and a friend that does windshield installations stopped by and installed an inside rear view mirror on my M1009. I know the glue he uses is 10X better than the glue kit you can buy. I never had a mirror fall off a windshield after he...

    Home Transmission Flush?

Yes I buy ATF in a 5 gallon pail and never used an entire pail in a complete teardown and replacement with new torque converter. Not much left in the 5 gallon pail but not empty. If you have the pan down you may as well put a deeper pan with a drain plug in place. Or add a drain plug to the one...

    Got a new m1009

You are not asking me but I just found a 99.9% perfect one and paid $600. American for it. It is a genuine GM and has a bit of damage where the M1009 radio bracket was mounted. So minor but worth mentioning. The guy wanted $750. for it. I thought crazy but I need one for an up coming build. Take...

    Got a new m1009

All good news. Sounds like progress. If you have everything out of the dash and feel like doing a really good job may I recommend the pressure washer. I have pressure washed many CUCV's out with the cluster removed. I did wrap a plastic bag on the column but other than that I washed the entire...

M1009 Stripped and left for dead.

Too bad I have much more parts stored. At the end I will just offer all the parts up for sale in a lump sum. So anyone looking for a package deal on CUCV parts. That day will be coming.

M1009 Stripped and left for dead.

I have posted a hint of this M1009 in the past. this was an M1009 that I was rebuilding and had just started the build by getting the engine running a rebuilt injection pump, transmission and a complete new exhaust system front to back. The exhaust is all stock as is the injection pump. During...

    Tranny, starter, or something else?

Yes I do know burning the rods from the crank shaft is labor intense. Probably not in the TM either. But I do what it takes to get the job done without breaking the bank and destroying good parts. The engine was worth about $10.. It was brought to me in this condition and I had it up and running...

    Tranny, starter, or something else?

I hope you were able to get the torque converter unbolted from the flex plate by now. I have encountered this situation many times over the years that the engine was not able to be turned over. In your situation I would use a transmission jack or a floor jack on a level solid surface and just...

New 1008 - Glow Plug Resistors Disconnected

I mean I am very much a over maintain a vehicle type of guy. I notice every hiccup and dig to find what caused the hiccup. If it starts hard one day I may pull all 8 glow plugs out and bench test them. 1 or 2 may be bad and I will replace only the 1 or 2 that are bad. If I notice that the...

New 1008 - Glow Plug Resistors Disconnected

After the cold start glow plug cycle it starts immediately when I hit the key. Now in winter sometimes at -15* it may crank a bit longer. I do use a block heater if I must rely on the truck for transportation. But yes I have all stock with the AC Delco 13 G glow plugs. Minimal of trouble in 25...

New 1008 - Glow Plug Resistors Disconnected

I will just sit back and watch and read. Currently I am self banned from giving opinionated advise. They don't listen anyway. Good Luck. Stock has worked for me for over 25 years on many CUCV's. No runaways, cascading glow plugs, or flaming resistors. But what do I know? These things are all...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

genius idea. I have a bar I use on the pulley hub and with a helper get that thing tight. It is a royal PITA. I think the reservoir should be remote of the pump like the civilian models. Better yet. Electric power steering like it is on 2014 Silverado's and up. I just replaced a broken one on a...

    Tranny, starter, or something else?

Sorry. You MUST remove the transmission to replace the torque converter seal. There is not enough space to remove the torque converter. It is just enough to replace the flex-plate. I only replace the flex-plate like this when that is all I want to replace. Follow a simple rule. If it ain't broke...

    Tranny, starter, or something else?

Yes you will have to remove the linkage , down shift wire, vacuum line from modulator and the cooler lines. There are 6 3/8" hex 9/16" bolts holding the transmission bell housing to the block. You must remove the bottom half of the flex-plate cover. Remove the 4 bolts holding the crossmember to...
