I have done at least 30 of these, on more than a dozen different trucks, never have I seen safety wire on them. Not a one and all but one of the trucks I've done had come straight from the military.
Like Hornet said, the worthless rubber will dry rot off the axle before it can wiggle the...
Don't forget the biggest reason modern engines last so much longer-electronic fuel injection systems capable of accurately metering the fuel going into the cylinder and only injecting what's necessary. Older engines with carbs, no matter how well tuned, inevitably "washed" the oil off the bores...
Looks good Z. If the spare tire was much larger, you'd have to get a smaller jerry can :)
I see the USMC rear lift rings, do you guys have the front for it?
Is the drivers seat tilted back some? It looks laid back to me.
TM says major adjustment when you replace shoes, minor for servicing.
Major = mess with bottom anchor
Minor = only mess with upper pivot
Pads = disc brakes
Shoes = drum brakes

Welcome to the site! More Australians! Raeme's not going to feel so alone now. rofl
There are several military Rover guys here on the site, so you'll fit right in.
The USAF (and I assume USA) Dodges (like this-obviously the M37 and WWII WC series are different) did not have an M-series # assigned to them.
I have a friend who has one of these: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/conversations/57969-1968-air-force-power-wagon.html
Picture help is here...
Deuces and 5 tons are different-there is no "interim" 5 ton in between WWII stuff and the M39.
Deuce =
WWII = CCKW
Interim (Korea) = GMC (Early deuce forum)
Later = Reo (M44, G742)
5 ton =
WWII = All the weird stuff like Federals, Macks, IH, etc.
Then they jump straight into the M39 series...
There is much discussion on 3053's leaking out the front.
Do a search in the deuce forum for "seal AND knuckle", I'll bet that will pull up all the tranny leaking threads.
That's weird-it lets you post to here but not the 5 ton forum.
Copy all of what you want to post onto a word document, then try and post the thread. if it lets you, go back and edit it and add all the text.
Several points.
First, glad you didn't get stuck in the middle of an intersection or something like that.
Second, the discussion of over-revving, rod bolts and general multifuel reliability should be carried over to one of the pre-existing threads.
Third, I totally agree, when rebuilding an...
Hey Mike,
We enjoyed this year as always, thanks for the support.
All of the pics and video are being collected in this thread. As people are still driving home and getting back to work, the thread will probably continue to grow for a week or so. But there are already a lot of pics and few...
I am going to assume you actually bought a #7 wrecker hoist.
Because the first pic you posted with the CCKW is probably not your hoist since it has the trolley.
Short answer:
Bomb hoist goes all the way to the front of the bed
#7 wrecker hoist goes about 2/3 or 3/4.
