Official 2013 SS Georgia Rally Info SSGR13 thread

We also need to think about a CRANETRUCK (BJORN) snatch operation, he is one of the SS original members that has contributed so much to STEEL SOLDIERS and that is close enough to the GAR to attend, it is just UNACCEPTABLE that we CANNOT get him to the rally, if we can get Mr. G from some where...

    Pyro gauge install

I have been told that 1200 is as far as you want to go for a length of time, when it goes over either get out of it and/or down shift.

    Power and smoke

Think you will find that you will melt pistons a long time before you melt valves, the problem of over speed is that the valves WILL float and HIT the pistons, this leads to BAD things, CUMMINS calls for 2100 rpm, it is in all there tec sheets, The trick is to UP fuel for a bit more power, at...

    3053 transmission mount

Some trucks have a leaf spring from frame rail to frame rail that supports the trans rear of hanging trans., this just takes the bounce out of the trans. hanging from the bellhousing

ETS DITY Move with M932 Fort Benning, GA. to Oregon

With TWO full trailers, it will tend to push the pulling truck going down hills UNLESS the driver is on top of it 120% of the time, just a touch of get-away could be a disaster, triples have a trailer weight of the first trailer on the pulling tractor, drivers that pull triples have pulled...

    axle gearing

The 5t axle was a civi axle, there was about 10 or 12 ratios that could be had, everything from 10 something down to a low 5 something, I posted the ratios a while back, (can't find it), about the only place you will find this other geraing is in a OLD big truck junk yard.

ETS DITY Move with M932 Fort Benning, GA. to Oregon

I believe that a hand valve is REQUIRED (or a separate trailer control ) for ANY trailer over a certain weight, I have seen TWO hand valves on tractors that are dedicated double/triple pullers, you may also may have a problem pulling TWO full trailers (dolly and 26' van x 2), doubles are one...

M817 Horn won't work please help

Just so you know, the wire going to the steering column is the GROUND (grounded at the horn actervater (horn button), the circuit is hot to the horn solenoid, then from the solenoid to the steering column. It took me awhile to realize this when I was getting Swiss's restored m62 horn to work...

m1028 from texas forest service with a salvage title?

A GOOD meeting of the butt with a belt sure would have gone a long way to a non-repeat and MAKE the parents PAY for ALL the damage.

    Pintle size mis-match. Easy fix??

The dollies shown are for the older doubles, notice the snubber (NOT a surge brake) in the lunette eye, these were used with the weld-on pintle without a snubber, think you will find the the pintle that was used with these dollies is a touch smaller than even todays civi pintles, the pintle was...

Project time once again Swiss's CUCV

Could NOT be his hair, must be a wig, because his hair is going where mine has gone.

    Deuce brake fluid

IF you use dot3, besure to blow out ALL the line before you fill with dot3, also don't forget to replace the 5 rubber hoses (2 to the rears, 1 to the front axle, 2 to the steering hubs) When we REBUILT Swiss's restored m62, we used dot3, works fine, a lot better then $100 a gal.

    m818 transfer case engagement switches

Just so EVERYBODY knows, I DID NOT do the MOD on my 819, it was the way it is when I brought it, more likely done by the military because the dumping the air mod is not well known in the civi world, I learned of it though a old MV mag. many years ago. The why the mod was done worked fine TILL...

    m818 transfer case engagement switches

Try draining the transfer, fill with diesel, run the truck up and down the road bit (DO NOT PUT A LOAD ON THE TRANSFER), drain and see how much gunk comes out, keep flushing till no gunk, refill with oil, see if front engages, if not then we can go from there.
