Hard to imagine but I was ready for bad news from the exhaust shop. They were able to get the studs out of the left exhaust manifold and replace them. I was already to replace the manifold if it needed to be done. Mr. Rusty is back in the owner's possession. The mufflers were replaced 4 years...
Heater hose delete cap? How do you put a heater hose delete cap into a female hole in the radiator. The 3/4" nipple sticking out of the radiator is for a 3/4" pice of rubber heater hose and runs to the heater core on the right side of the firewall. Do you have any pictures so we can all get on...
It was a long HOT weekend. I was out in the woods on a job clearing a path for a new modular home. As luck/fate would have it I was able to break a chain on the saw. Never broke a chain on a saw in my life. I hit a bullet or something in a large tree. And I also cut into a steel cable in the...
No that port is the port for the low coolant sensor. The CUCV never had an oil temperature sensor. Just an idiot light and that pulled the signal from the left rear of the engine block tight up against the firewall. Drivers side left. Good Luck.
Change the water pump and put the sending unit in the head where it should be. The temeparature of the coolant in the head is the best place to accuratly measure the coolant temperature. And the water pump will never warp or crack from being too hot. You have to think. Why did GM put the coolant...
Pintle hook yes. Have several.
Front Axle broken in 3 places. See previous posts.
Oil cooler line bracket. I will just make my own going forward. I don't need any myself. And you mention axles I had 2 pairs setting here for a few years. NOT a very popular item. I must be missing something. I...
I would be interested in seeing what the front axle looks like. I am suspecting that someone swaped the 1 ton axles for a set of 3/4 ton axles. If you were closer I have lots of parts you could scavenge thru. That fuel tank addition is a lot of work. Good Luck.
That looks like a 14 bolt out of a 3/4 ton truck/Suburban. I seen it right away and thought why does it look so different. All is well. As long as the gears are the same ratio it will sail.

As I started on my project tonight. Just getting the good parts and destroying the rest as I was advised. I made a deal that the truck would never see the road again. I keep my word. It is decimated. Sawzall and a torch can quickly make things...
Why does that rear brake drum look so different than the M1028/M1008? Just asking cause it appears to be a smaller size drum. Lots of work you have going on there. Good Luck.
I was at the scrapper yesterday and you can guess what I seen next to the shredder. It was Big Red 1986 CUCV M1008. I bought it for scrap weight and hauled it home. It has an unscheduled appointment with the cutting torch tomorrow. Fun Fun. All I wanted was a few frame brackets and I was in...
Take the 1 thru bolt off at the joint where the cab column and the lower shaft meet. Tap the connection down and release it from the upper column. Then you can remove the lower column from the steering box with a 7/16" 12 point socket. Of course tap it back up into place when reinstalling. Do as...
Send me a message via rengle523@comcast.net I have lots of original good parts. Good Luck. But first I would clean the ground on the frame and install a new grounding washer and self tapping bolt. Worth a try.
Quick question. How can it be a waste of time to pressure test the cooling system? This head gasket was on a 6.2 CUCV M1009 engine that I pressure tested and had a definite coolant leak into the combustion chambers. It ran like a steam Jenny out the right tailpipe. The heads were fine and just...
I have been procrastinating on the underside of the hood sanding and getting the left inner fender installed. Now that Mr. Rusty is gone I must apply myself to these monotonous tasks directly. Any move forward is a move in the right direction. My extra work on customers vehicles is welcome...
I drove Mr Rusty to the exhaust shop and dropped it off for new exhaust. Still not going with SS exhaust. Waste of money at this point. It is almost double the cost. And Mr. Rusty like any other 35 year old hard road driven vehicle has the time bomb is ticking away. Anything could happen...
Before pulling the heads to check the head gaskets get a good reliable mechanic to pressure test the cooling system. If the head gaskets are blown and leaking it will NOT hold pressure. We had a 6.2 diesel for over 20 years that was a 1984 K30 cab chassis plow truck previously with the state of...
