New To Me Engine, Won't Start

Injection pump. I don't think you said you had it rebuilt. I may have missed it I am multi tasking here. Did you ever check the glow plugs by pulling them out?

    Meet Mr Rusty

I did manage to get the nuts and the rusted flange from the left exhaust manifold. I choose to do that before I sent it to the exhaust shop so they could just heat the manifold and get the studs out. I was laying on cardboard in 100* weather and the exploding rust particles were a real joy. I...

    Meet Mr Rusty

Getting the block heater out proved to be a real challenge. Once it was out I used the rotary brush on the drill and cleaned the hole really well. It did have a spot on the element where it was in contact with the cylinder inside. I read that it must not make contact with anything inside the engine.

    Meet Mr Rusty

i started out early today. At 0800 it was 80*. Getting the old block heater presented a challenge. It is out now. It was dug in and hanging on. Very little coolant remained and I lucked out and was able to retrieve the crossbar that holds it in. It wwas laying inside the hole and I just reached...

Looking for eastern VA based mechanic familiar with 6.2 in M1009

Have you had the heads both checked out at a competent automotive machine shop? It is probably corroded metal head gasket seals at the combustion chamber. I have had that issue. Make sure the heads are properly machined. Get new head gaskets and head bolts. Good Luck. My offer still stands if...

    Meet Mr Rusty

After a full week of thunderstorms, extreme heat, high humidity, and hard work I am ready to go back to work on Mr. Rusty. I had some down time waiting for a block heater to arrive. I also wanted to take the time to clean up my shop and get all my tools accounted for. After working outside for 3...

    Drivers side seatbelt?

Passengers side is easier. Heat the nut up red hot and chill it quickly. Turn it out from the bottom. It is an M12 bolt. Available at any good hardware store. I can't remember the thread pitch 1.75 ??? off the top of my head. But once you have it out a hardware store visit will match it easily...

    New project

If you were closer I would hook you up. But regardless I would get the TH 400 and NP 208 rebuilt and a reconditioned torque converter before I proceeded. Good Luck. I would help if closer. Parts is something I have lots of.

    Drivers side seatbelt?

I am assuming it is an M1008/M1028. Use the torch and carefully heat the welded cage nut under the cab above the fuel tank. Easy enough to get to. Using a cordless or pneumatic impact with a 13/16" impact socket give it a shot. it should come right off/out. Make sure to heat it really good. A...

    Need Help With Value!

Good point on the H1 wheels. They do not have very much value unless they are 24 bolt. And then maybe. I had several sets of the wheels and tires. And I scrapped several sets of 12 & 24 bolt wheels with the magnesium run flats still attached and cut the rubber run flats out. The wheels and...

    New project

How are you going to be running at all with out a transfer case? Is it a 2WD transmission? If it is it may not be compatable for a 4WD vehicle. Good Luck. I second the suggestion to just put the TH400 back in it and keep it simple and reliable. That's just me. I am sure that would be a budget...

    Meet Mr Rusty

The brakes were tight and the wheel was hard to turn. I se why now. Easy fix. The tightening wedge is broken. I have extras. I pried the brake caliper away from the rotor to get some free play in the caliper. The slide surface tells the whole story. I have DOT 5 in mine from bleeding the brakes...

Need a lesson on engine tempatures and cooling system.

Like most vehicles the CUCV is equipped with a pressurized cooling system. It requires the proper mix of coolant and water in pressurized cooling system to maintain the correct temperature. If the cooling system is unable to maintain pressure it is unable to maintain the proper cooling as...

    Meet Mr Rusty

My barn is plugged into the outside outlets on the house. They do have the safeties built in. They pop every time it rains and the kids pool is running. I was a very slight jolt but I was aware that it had current. If I had permanent wiring in my barn the insurance would go thru the roof. It is...

    Meet Mr Rusty

I was able to get the oil pan back on today. The owner stopped by and added a few things to the list. he told me the block heater don't sem to work. While I was under putting the oil pan on I plugged it in to se if I could hear the element heat up. It does make a sound I heard them many times...

    WA registration issues

They want to know what you paid for it to collect sales tax. Do you have a "Bill of Sale" ? That would help. In Pennsylvania we pay tax on every vehicle every time it is sold. I learned a long time ago. Just pay the tax. Don't fabricate a price so you pay less tax. Just pay the tax. I sold my...

    Meet Mr Rusty

Yes that oil pan should have been scrapped the last time it was off. I cleaned a good used one primed and painted it. Nice stud. I decided to tackle the stud nut for the dip stick while the paint dried. That was easy. 5 minutes and it was off. The paint was not dry yet. While I was under the...

    Meet Mr Rusty

Well I am not 76 I will be 60 soon. I have a garage with a cement floor. I would rather work outdoors in natural light and have the project move along at a comfortable pace. If it rains I don't work on my outside project. I have a couple inside projects and a couple off site projects. I just...

    Meet Mr Rusty

I see it but I don't believe it. This oil pan on Mr. rusty has been off before and someone fixed the rust holes. Who fixes rusted out oil pans. If they are that bad they need replaced. I took a pick hammer and tapped on the pan at a few places and the hammer went right thru the pan all over. I...
