Hey I didn't see your response. But yes. You can build up from the floor with steel tubing. I prefer to use some stock pedestal for safety. I used Astro van pedestals and the M1009 pedestals also. I even used 1988-1998 pick up bench split seats in the M1009. Using my flat bar as a platform to...
Put the transmission in neutral and it will shift right in with one smooth movement of the shifter. No need to turn the engine off. Just shift it with a smooth one movement shift when the transmission is in neutral. All is well. Good Luck.
Nice shaft man. That is gone. I replaced the rear U joint, sanded and painted the rear shaft. Same as the front drive shaft. I sanded and painted it also. Before I done that I replaced the drive shaft boot and greased the CV joint. If you have never greased your CV joint I suggest it get...
I have body bolts. I just run the tap up thru the cab nuts and use grade 8 1/2" x 13. I think they are 5" long. But they work great. And some pictures would look good. I have another nice cab here now. Have a Great Day.
NO. That will NOT work. But who knows how you have it hooked up. It may work it may NOT. Hard to tell from afar. I have the stock system and it has worked for over 20 years as it left the Flint assembly plant in 1983.
I said this many times. Take the truck to the parts store. Change the belts in the lot. Walk back and forth and get a belt that fits so tight you need to spin it on the pulley. It will last for years. And yes if you bypass the resistors on the fire wall the belt will squeal more because you are...
Use steel flat bar and bolt it fast to the stock floor seat anchors. Then use 3/8" x 2" elevator bolts to attach the new seat pedestals to the flat bar. You will have to take it out and do some fabrication. I think it can be completed with no welding at all. Just patience and drilling. The...
As I started today. It was a cold rainy day. I did manage to get some work done. Made a lot of floor space in my shop. My seasonal goal has not been met yet. I installed the used tires and rally wheels on the chassis. Next I want to get the fuel tank cleaned up and undercoated. That is a dirty...
Never measured springs with a micrometer. They are not a precision piece. The bushings fit the frame mounts and the spring eye hole. After that you tighten them up and done. This is the same suspension they used for over 100 years. Leaf springs with eyes. Just saying. Stanley spring in...
Tonight was a slow to show progress but I got a few things completed that needed to be done. Every move forward is a slight path to the end product. I replaced all the 3/4" loom on the light wiring harness. I fixed the P clips that hold the light wiring harness to the frame. Cleaned and painted...
My least favorite part of the entire build. The exhaust system. It was brand new back in 2007 but setting has made it rust. Nothing is rusted thru but I am not fond of the hangers the shop installed. They will need to be gone. I am not a fan of the 5" tips either. They may stay for now. It...
Nothing. It is normal when you are touching the battery positive to get a slight shock from the rest of the truck. But only on your thin skin like mentioned in the beginning. All is well. Have a Shocking experience.
I made some more progress on my reassembly tonight after work. Shooting for having the driveline in the frame over the weekend. Gotta keep at it. Winter is coming quickly. Take Care. Be Safe and have a Great Day.
Cleaned up my drive way and cut up the bent M1009 frame for scrap. All cut up. All the brackets are still salvageable. Neatly stored out of my way. Have a Great Day. It was wonderful weather today. I got a lot of outside get ready for winter work completed. Added a few parts too the CUCV engine...
I am going to live a bit risky. I am going to drop off the M1028 at a Pennsylvania Inspection station and see if it passes the ridged inspection process. Pennsylvania has one of the toughest safety inspections. I think all is well. I suspect a new set of wiper blades will be needed. But that is...
It could be the temperature sensor at the rear of the drivers side head. The original ones had a shoddy plug and it would crumble with age and the wires would touch and make for a cold start light at times. The replacement sensor comes with a new style pigtail and is easily spliced in place to...
Tonight I needed to step back and reflect a bit. I was working looking for tools and stumping over empty bins and parts boxes. Time to clean up. After a bag of trash and a 1/2 pick up load of cardboard I am ready to progress on the project on Friday. In case anyone wants the NAPA part numbers...
