1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

Oh JOY and Happiness. I called NAPA and ordered the parts. They delivered them to me. All the parts are made in China except the axle flange seals and the differential cover gasket. I sure hope main land China. Who cares? They fit perfectly and the truck is back on the road and ready for wood...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I would remove the 6 M10 bolts that attach the torque converter to the flex plate and remove the transmission and torque converter as an assembly. I would never put a transmission back in once it's out with out changing the front seal. I know people that did and they regretted it. Most things...

TH400 kickdown and top speed problem M1008

A wild guess from afar. I would adjust the vacuum regulator on the right side of the injection pump. Can you see the marks were it originally was? If so make sure it is on them marks. Do you have the top vacuum to the transmission and the bottom one to the vacuum pump? Also are you sure the...

    M1009 steering parts

All 1984-1991 K5/K10 front end chassis parts are the same. They all have a cooperate 10 bolt front axle. Nothing special/military about them. Ball joints are a breeze with a C clamp/press. Greasable ones are the norm. But the upper ball joint will be able to be greased once and then capped. If...

    M1009 has loud idle

Vibration. makes perfect sense. Broken power steering pump was one of my thoughts but also thought that was visibly to obvious and you would have seen and heard that right away. Good Luck. Make sure the slip adjustment area on the power steering bracket is not whittled out and the top mount...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

If you are referring to me I am NOT laughing at your technique. It is harder that way but you have to do what you have to do. I rebuild the engine on a table and have an engine stand. I do a lot of hand sanding and have power tools. So it is not how it gets done just so it gets done. I am NOT...

    M1009 has loud idle

Is it a vibration that you are hearing while it is idling? Maybe a loose or stripped air filter housing stud/nut, Bad motor mount or vacuum pump hitting firewall or air filter housing? Not sure why the sound would change idling.

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

I made great progress today. Stayed in the barn and kept at it. It would have went a bit quicker but I was cleaning and painting all the parts as I went. More progress later. Thank you for looking. I hope it is inspiring.

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

OK after lunch this is how I am going to start out. After getting some help flipping the engine over I am ready to go at it again. I have my rebuilt heads/head bolts and new parts all ready to install. I will post more progress later. Have a Great Day. It was raining earlier today again. Now the...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

I started out my day with a short block upside down. I pulled the perfect running engine and removed the heads as a precaution and had them gone over at a automotive machine shop as I outlined earlier in my thread. Cleaning and painting everything as I go can be time consuming but rewarding at...

Resealed my injection pump, stalling issue.

It has been my experience from talking with the rebuilders that the head and rotor is the root of the trouble in most pumps. I never disassembled a pump to rebuild it. I disassembled one just to see the pieces inside it. After that I said no thanks. No user friendly parts inside and left it up...

    Starter ran off on me

I used either one. But thanks for the update. I never seen the application. I will keep that in mind. I have been grabbing everyone I see from YOUPULLIT's. I know an M1010 box had about 4-6 in each one.

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

Update. I never had any luck getting any parts yesterday. So I spent my time randomly cleaning engine bolts and brackets so I can reassemble the engine like clock work. I have so many bins of parts I also have duplicate bins of the same parts. I was picking and accounting for all the parts as I...

    Starter ran off on me

NAPA AR746 will get you the ones I use if I buy a new/used CUCV. It works for me and many others I sold too.

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

Today I broke from the schedule and worked on the M1028 wood hauling truck. It has been dragging the rear brakes on and off for the last year. Last night it was locked up tight and would barely move. All 3 off the brake cables were rusted fast. Mostly from not being used most of the time and...

Hit a bump and NO lights

If melted lighting fuse. Remove fuse box as noted and replace the melted circuit with 2 in line fuses. Easy to do and never gave me another problem. The loose fuse has the fuse over heating. I even used circuit breakers on a few units and eliminated the fuse completely. Good Luck.

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

Tonight I was replacing the fuel lines and the front axle vent hose. I pulled the engine out and prepared to reassemble it. I have a few bolts and parts to run thru the parts washer. Tomorrow is another day/night. Have a Great Day. No pictures today.

    Starter run on

If it were me. And it's NOT me or mine. I would eliminate the guess work and the rework time. I would take it to a competent rebuilder and have it thoroughly checked over. Beats the issues it can cause and the time it takes putting it on and off. may cost a few $$. But in the end it will give...

    M1009 wont start

Great Job. That was easy. Thanks for posting the out come.

    Starter ran off on me

No anger here. It's your truck. Do as you wish. I am pointing out the relay worked many years when truck was maintained in top running condition. The older it got the less the truck was maintained. It started harder from defects and the batteries were always low amperage as it aged and was not...
