Yeah, if theres oil leaking out of the bellhousing id bet its gear oil. A quick smell will confirm G/O or motor oil. The way the flywheel is designed, its hard for motor oil to get to the clutch.
I have an fm100 base and filters if thats the route youd like to go. Lots of members here have put them on and theres lots of options available for them. Send a pm if interested.
Splines long enough to go all the way in the chunk? That would be the easiest imho. Gets complicated after that.
Also, i saw a post by Gerhard about having to "dimple" some rear seals, might apply to the front too.
Tig aluminium takes patience which i have little of. The push/pull mig on the other hand rocks! Nothing i do needs the "pretty" of tig, but i still have one just in case i run out of things to do. Toby, if you dig your power supply out, ill lend you one of my cobramatics.
Detergent oils are used when there is a filter in the oil system. The detergent will grab the dirt and carry it to the filter. You use non-detergent oil in areas with no filter like the trans. The dirt will fall to the bottom of the case where it belongs.
