Axle Shaft removal for towing FMTV

I can verify the ease of removal since I had to do this over the weekend (same vehicle and same rear axle as in NDTs picture). Make sure you have the 3/8" coarse thread bolt in your tool kit. I did not (although I do now and it's painted orange) and spent 1/2 hour searching for something off...

    Working on the M1078 LMTV

I got the lower fan shroud out. The upper bolts on the lower shroud are a PITA. Not enough room to get a socket, even with a swivel, on it and very little room to turn a wrench. 1/8 turn, flip wrench, 1/8th turn, etc. Then when it's loose there's no room to get your fingers in there to turn...

    LMTV Air Conditioner

I'm trying to get that info now. The person that passed the article on to me is checking and I had specifically asked him about thickness thinking I'd need to make my own.

    Operation "URGENT RESTORATION"

Nice score! I talked to the guy from Rapco at the MVPA convention last year and he said he had a bunch of truss kits but every time I called after that he'd never call me back so don't know if he was just yammering or actually had some.

MEP002A No Power Output and Guages Not Working

A couple of years ago I bought a MEP002A for my inlaws. They picked it up and it's been sitting in their driveway getting started once a month but nothing else. FIL decided to hook it up to the house this weekend and said he was getting power to the accessory plugs and then shut the generator...

    Fan clutch bolts

We did the driveline check with a magnetic dial indicator and was WELL within specs so I'm not worried too much about that. We also just had the fan clutch off when putting the AC pulley on and thought everything looked good for it too. It is the old style clutch and fan so age may have been a...

    LMTV Air Conditioner

Here's something to be aware of when adding AC: https://www.nsncenter.com/Library/PSMAG/PS_722?PageNumber=7 I don't think it was the cause of my fan clutch imploding but there was signs of minor contact between the bolts on the back of the fan clutch and the face of the AC pulley.

    Working on the M1078 LMTV

I had a friend text me a link to this article: https://www.nsncenter.com/Library/PSMAG/PS_722?PageNumber=7 I checked and sure enough there was some evidence of slight contact. I can't think it was enough to cause this but it was there. Now I need to find a spacer and recommend anyone doing...

    Working on the M1078 LMTV

Got the teardown complete except for the radiator. I found bits and pieces of lots of different parts scattered throughout the engine compartment. Getting a closer look at the radiator I'm optimistic that it can be repaired as long as I can get it out without doing any more damage. The hole...

WSUCougarx's M561 Gama Goat Acquisition and Build Thread

Good advice but most of Mike's vehicle (other than the fuel tank and tailgate) is aluminum so the magnets don't work so good :)

    Working on the M1078 LMTV

Deuce/5 ton feet. Of course I don't think your M1009 could tow it back from Big Bend. It'd probably get it off the road though but I'm thinking my medium would do that without having to pack that Heavy tow bar around. I took a closer look at the damage this morning. Air line going to the...

    Working on the M1078 LMTV

Made it home just after 2000 hours. $755 tow bill. We'll see how good my insurance coverage really is.

    Fan clutch bolts

Been a few months so need to bump for the LMTV crowd. Check your fans. I'm sitting on I-10 waiting for a wrecker.

    Working on the M1078 LMTV

Thanks Suprman. I'll wait until I get the radiator pulled to see how bad it is. I might be able to have it repaired or even recored cheaper than shipping one. I'm probably going to need a fan though. Is this one a stock CAT item or specific to the LMTVs?

    Working on the M1078 LMTV

Don't think so. Two are ripped out, 3 are still tight in the housing, and one looks like it was pushed out flattening the threads.

    Working on the M1078 LMTV

I was at speed and it did take out the radiator. Sitting off I10 waiting for a wrecker. Got the rear axle shafts out thanks to some texting advice from NDT. The culprit.

M37 as First Car? Anybody Done It?

It wasn't military and it wasn't Alaska but I drove a '52 Chevy pickup in North Idaho my junior year of high school (I paid a whopping $75 for it). Trust me, when you're scrapping ice off the INSIDE of the window going down the road you're really inspired to buy something newer and more...
