My M35A2 and M109A3 have the "plates" painted on the inside of the doors and on the dash respectively, but the M1009 is going to need plates, however I am going to use the door number for the plate number:)
CUCVs look like they SHOULD have plates, a Deuce does not. My Deuces are registered Texas Former Military and don't require plates, and I don't worry about driving my Deuces around with no plates and have not been hassled yet, but the M1009 is going to be a daily driver so I have to register it...
That was very helpful, THANKS! I like the one mounted on the spare tire carrier inside the truck, and I like your idea of putting it between the pintle and lifting shackle, there is just enough room there. I REALLLLY did not want to drill holes in my tail gate but I don't mind drilling the...
I need to mount a license plate, with a light, on the rear of my M1009. I have seen the thread discussing magnets and Velcro but I need a light. Anyone out there have any photos of your setup? I would prefer to not drill holes in my tail gate but I think that may be the only way to go that does...
You cheeky Git! I thought I was going to bring up the rear (no trouser bandit jokes... there may be children and sensitive types lurking about) with the flashy light deployed! I see how it is...
You make a very good point, I will have to prep well! Unfortunately the pink is adhered too well to blast off, I will have to find another way to do it.
I will take photos, and a lot of ribbing I'm sure from Rory and Sarge.. but it will be fun!
Mineral spirits does not budge the pink, but lacquer thinner takes it right off.. is it cheaper and easier to remove the pink than paint over it? NO, but I can use the thinner to clean up the window...
No, I shot those photos last summer at Ft. Sam Houston, the list on the windshield are the dates that it was available to the various levels in the donation stream, it got picked up. It is likely sitting behind a Vol fire station somewhere in Texas as you read this...
The pink paint made it cheap! It's mechanically sound but cosmetically challenged:), it made the 400mi trip home in fine fashion and was not forklift mangled save for one dent on the passenger side.
And I MIGHT show to a rally in Pinky.. In fact I think I WILL do one with her in her raw state...
I am leaning toward the theories of a quick and dirty paint job done to make this truck stand out for some reason (range duty etc...), the paint, and I think it is paint and not primer, looks like it was applied very quickly with a broom or coarse brush, and they were not too worried about 100%...
I washed a surplus canvas bag one time (don't recall what it was exactly) and it came out looking like your seat covers did, put that on my list of things NOT to do...
Dishwashers make great steam de-greasers, but people with ovaries are typically not able to appreciate that...
There was a white one there that had "ON POST USE ONLY" on the door, I suppose it was white so they could keep track of it.
That aggressor force training theory sounds the best so far, I think I will go for that!
I will try the paint thinner on it tomorrow, no worries Rory!
