First thing I'd do is make sure it is a hydrocarbon based oil. Some are water based and not what you'd want in a fuel system. Once its established that it will burn, I'd think filtering and heating to remove moisture and you should be good to go.
Ahhh, forgot the stock rim statement. Yes that is no-good.
In stock form, the rear axle hubs are "in" so the centerline of the duals is lined up with the front tires. When you single out the truck, the hubs get flipped "out" to have the tires track in-line with each-other.
The A3s are (no offense intended) ugly enough as-is, I would try to model the hard top off of a 5ton franken-top that has the r.o.p.s. system incorporated. Plenty of strength to stand on one of those.
Lots of gin-pole info here:

There are videos posted too, but I haven't found them yet...
This is the thread I learned the most from. Rest in peace Irish...
Having a 5ton wrecker, I can honestly say, fix your current crane. I love the ability my crane gives me, but it always seems to run out of stick and (because I am a) one man show, rigging up a lift, climbing up in the operators bucket and having the rigging fall out of the crane hook SUCKS! Then...
Lots of details still to be hammered out. Any idea on a lift capacity? The structure alone may overload the front end. If shooting for 2-3 klbsnn id just get a small service crane.
So your looking for something like ebayauction 173121074700?
I know Fuzzytoaster has a bunch of military seatbelt kits. Might try sending him a PM and asking what he has.
