 Take a look at the smaller trucks used by the telephone and tv cable companies in your area. A lot of them use an Onan generator with a stinger mounted hydraulic pump for the bucket. Not sure on the gpm of the pump but the generators I've seen are around 5kW..... I've even seen some used...
Sounds like pretty typical manual stuff Lee. I know the guys on the Duramx forums have been talking about these kind of things too. Most guys I have talked to tend to just run some fuel treatment or the factory approved mix of biodiesel while they are under warranty.
The latest engines in a all...
Nice find MD - seeing it reminds me of growing up in South Charleston WV. Near the Ordinance Center they had a small park with several different AA mounts. They were still in good enough condition that the cranks to elevate and traverse the guns were still free and us kids had great fun sitting...

RE: M818
Hey Wayne,
Steelsoldiers can comment further but this M818 doesn't have a Jake on it. It does have a "johnson bar" on the steering column for manual trailer brake control. I have always heard that this can be a real help in certain situations - kinda like manually applying electric...
RE: M818
Good trip yesterday! This is a clean M818 that has been well maintained. We had a nice ride home too heading up US17 through New Bern, Washington, and other small NC towns - and we couldn't have asked for better traveling weather either. I got to follow Steelsoldiers home in his pickup...
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Greeting from Denmark :-)
Welcome to Steelsoldiers Peter! Good to see someone here from DK.
I was in Copenhagen last month with work and on the day I arrived there was a nice naval display down at the harbor. Several of the smaller patrol boats and cruisers were set up for...
I hope I haven't confused anyone...
Based on my experience wiring one of these to a transfer switch, the closest you are going to get with the 3KW set in its stock configuration is to use the 120/208 setting. Any hot to hot will get you 208v and hot to neutral will get you 120v. Check your 240v...
Friend of mine found this out the hard way too after BBQing some household appliances. After talking with some guys knowledgeable about these sets we found the best way to power the transfer switch and emergency panel was to use the 120/208 3 phase position. We used two of the three hot lugs...
RE: Driveshaft clearance
BC, if that gets to be too long for you I wonder if you could set up your two new tanks as secondaries? The 900 series was set up that way in that your primary air tanks had to fill to a certain pressure before the secondaries would start to fill. This made the primary...
Yeah I forgot about how much of a pain they can be when I typed that earlier - I had to replace the switch on my 6.2 and my 6.5. Not having a operating lift pump can be hard on the injection pump..... If you want to go with an electric pump a relay wired to ignition on source would work.
On my...
Something else to think about...On the factory electric fuel pumps, GM used an oil pressure switch and relay to activate it. The relay would allow for power while cranking and then once the switch closed from seeing oil pressure it would continue to run. The idea was if you wrecked it would shut...
RE: 6.5 turbo for my 6.5
Ahhhh, gotta love that downpipe - looks like it has been in a fight. One of the biggest improvements I made to my 6.5 pickup was replacing the stock exhaust with a mandrel bent one.
Looks like you have everything to me except for maybe the crossover pipe and the...
RE: Re: RE: Anyone in the DC area...
Article you linked to says that the owner thinks it was just kids. It would make me mad as a hornet too though, work hard for something and then have it torn up.
Steelsoldiers actually lives in the City of Franklin over near Suffolk(about 4.5 hours). I've seen the truck you are talking about while heading to Salem for work. They have never been open either but the rust is the biggest thing I've seen without actually getting to crawl in/around it. It...
Thanks for great pics guys - makes me want to have been there!
So Stretch, is there a story behind the Mag-Lite duct taped to the hood of the CJ? Looks like one of those :grd: field fixes!
Lookin' good Bjorn! Are the air horns an add-on? It also looks like it might have a "city horn" tucked in by the passenger side headlight...
Hard to believe that is rattle can paint, it evened out really nice. [thumbzup]
