    Late night WVO nightmare!!

The best part is that I had a Men's meeting down at church last night (where the previous barrel came from) and one of the leaders asked if I could give the other two partial barrels to "my brother's friend who makes biodiesel". aua After I stopped laughing I politely offered to call the local...

help please with diesel generator add-on advice

RE: Re: enclosing the genset Have you got a local Lombardini dealer you are working with? I could pull that adapter off so that you could use it to match it up to a new one. I'd give it to you but the way this engine mounts I will need it... Let me know if I can help.

Trouble-shooting the Protective Control Box in a 5-ton

And you also don't want to let your coworkers near it when it is signed out - we had a new mechanic in the maintenance shop try to demonstrate his toughness by shocking himself with it :cookoo: and...you guessed it he dropped it in the process. Talk about some unpleasant conversations in the...

    Can I Burn Crude Oil

Is it true crude oil or is it "drip gas"? Growing up in WV a lot of the good ol' boys would get free drip gas from the separator tanks on the natural gas wells. Drip is kind of a natural gasoline and has a distinctive odor to it due to the impurities. You could always tell who was running it in...

M923A2 came home with me today!

Welllllll.....you could pump out of the tank in your back yard - except for the fact that it is dyed(and you've already paid for it for the boiler). Plus your other half would probably frown on the lack of hot water for important things like cooking, bathing etc.. :)

    Late night WVO nightmare!!

Hey Chris - make sure you set the clamp ring so the lock tab goes down. They can be bent over or secured with a seal too. Note to self: Use only closed head drums for waste veggie oil in the future - open head drums may leak and cause everything to smell like fried fish and hush puppies

    Late night WVO nightmare!!

Sorry Brother - Yikes, sounds like it is a bigger mess in the daylight than it was last night aua There has to be a gasket missing on that barrel as we still use that style here at the plant and they don't leak - the men might have lost it when it was down at church for the fish fry. Got any...

    Civy 6.2l transplanted or not?

I'll let Chris comment on the exhaust manifold but given that you are looking at an '88 1 ton it will already have the HD intake on it and the DB2 injection pump might actually be an improved model over the one on your existing engine. I would leave it on that way you don't have to mess with the...

    Civy 6.2l transplanted or not?

No complaints here either Kenny - my '96 had 165k on it last year when I sold it. The guy that bought it flew out from Nebraska and drove it back as 1/2 ton diesels are a little harder to find. One more thing on that intake - you can block off the egr port if your new used engine has a light...

    Civy 6.2l transplanted or not?

Other than the goofy electrical system, the motors are basically the same. Depending on the vehicle you pull the new engine from you may want to change the intake. The light duty motors were equipped with an egr intake while the HD motors did not. Fuel lift pumps may or may not be mechanical(my...

M923A2 came home with me today!

Wow - Looks good to see that left front assembled. Those brake drums are heavy, I think you can skip the gym this week! Did you have any trouble locking down the inner nut with the BFH? Chad

    Firetruck..Finally done !!

Outstanding job Chad. Question - what is the small poly tank above the booster reel for? Foam proportioner? There are still a few dueces and 5 tons serving tanker duty here in my part of NC - none that nice though! Chad

M923A2 came home with me today!

Chris I am thinking it has to be the switch unless there is a section of the harness that has gotten crushed or shorted somewhere. The under-dash wiring looked good to/from the light switch when I spent that 1/2 day under there working on the bat switch and start switch. Quick thought - check...

M923A2 came home with me today!

Sweeeeet! Great news Brother, I am glad to see that it actually was #2 in the tank since it was almost too full to be true. I am also relieved that the "magic smoke" did not leak out of any of my wiring repairs since the bat switch wires were unlabeled and hard to reach. 8) Chad

M923A2 came home with me today!

Thanks Bjorn - this is going to be a fun project. Like Chris said good thing there is a Lull parked next to the barn for the heavy lifting. The tilt up front is nice but we might have to fab up a work stand to hang on the tires for easier access to the steering lines and cooler.

M923A2 came home with me today!

Nice job loading and hauling your new truck Chris - you can tell who's done that once or twice before. Looking forward to seeing how she handles on the highway, plenty of room in the bed for smaller m/v's too! Congrats! Chad

help please with diesel generator add-on advice

The first battery I had on hand was dead, so I tried pull-starting the thing. Pull-starting a 400CC diesel with 20:1 compression is very interesting, and I found it futile.

    :( electric

Yep FWIW, etherin a 6.2 or 6.5 is a bad idea. Besides glowplug concerns hitting these with ether is strictly a manual affair and it is easy to over do it. Ether start kit on a big truck or tractor is a different animal. It doesn't take much more than one bad GP to keep the 6.2/6.5 from starting...
