I'm in the young folks category, sitting in the dorm at college right now. I know that myself and many of my friends are interested in military vehicles and the history of the military. I have friends that have some pretty impressive military collections already and are continuing to grow them...
Looks like a real fun truck, congrats! akroesler, howdy neighbor! Welcome from Palmdale (technically sitting in Flagstaff now but everything's in Palmdale).
Thanks for the offer. We were just going to sell them and maybe keep one just in case we found a use for it, but I'm not sure what we would use one on.
Your truck's looking real nice! Good to know those boxes went to a good home! We were going to try for those since dad has to go to Barstow for a pallet of 50 cals anyway but I thought he bid on them, and he thought I bid soooo...
Valence, I "think" that that's just a difference from the older trailers to the newer ones on how the bed mounts. From a quick look on GP it's hard to tell for sure though.
If you can't find a place to put it near you, you can bring it to me:-D I promise to pet it, feed it and clean up after it every day.:naner: Seriously though good luck with it looks like everything is there.
The truck is looking really great zout! Yes, more videos please, it's just amazing to see a truck that was left for dead in the woods come back to life after so many years!
Some good sounding books listed here! I'll have to check out every book mentioned, even the ones I've already read! I like the books Sled Driver by Brian Shul about his experiences in the SR71. He's a very interesting man to read about and to meet in person. Also X-Plane Crashes: Exploring...
Welcome to Steel Soldiers! I don't have any official information but from what I've seen, I think you missed the boat on being able to bet on getting a cheap one. There still seems to be a good amount of them out there but they aren't giving them away like they were a couple years ago.
Never used the parts to bob a truck, but all the 105's I've parted out have only had about 1 inch past the nut left on the u bolts so you'll probably need longer ones.
I bought a lot of HMMWV troop seats, MK23 troops seats, and M105 sides out of Barstow that was listed as 1700lbs. I think it was really closer to 10K based on the scrap tickets from where about 75% of them ended up. Luckily the trailer was heavy duty enough that it didn't really matter either way.
I've been following wsucougarx's build and the goat build so it took a while to decide. In the end the "it's a GUN TRUCK" side of my head won over my vote.
It's certainly a good place to meet great people and get some good prices on stuff! Last time I came home with a big box of hydraulic parts, wire harnesses, and pins for the whopping price of $20:smile: I'll be missing the next few meetings though, probably until January. It's a great show but...
