I didn't take it out, but I unbolted it from the dash and firewall. And put a new electrical part of the ignition switch in it, so I really angered it. I unhooked the shift linkage from the column, moved the shifter around, ran the yoke on the trans through the gears, and hooked everything...

Finally got to drive it around today. Had a symptom of not coming out of Park, not sure what was going on, but seems ok now.

After checking some fusible links, I repaired one, found a burnt wire. Repaired the burnt wire and discovered that the alternator that I had rebuilt (Gen 2) wasn't isolated ground cause it made fireworks when I hooked up the battery cables. Luckily Gen 1 hasn't been messed with, after swapping...

I have a Power Probe I have been using to check stuff with since it shows 12v or 24v or ground. But I haven't checked the fusible links there. I haven't checked any of them because I'm not sure how to, unless I cut them out.

Well 2 weeks later and I have managed to completely piss it off. After figuring out there's no signal to the starter, no signal to the relay under the dash, (the doghead relay), I have printed off the diagram from the sticky and will be replacing the electrical part of the ignition switch...

The taillight assemblies have their own ground wires, you can clean those and see if it helps, can't hurt

I did check out the operation on the truck today, when its cold, no problem, warm no crank. If I can get a helper tomorrow, I will go deeper. As a side note, I installed the GM block heater last week, super easy, follow directions. I got mine for $44, I got the dealership hookup.
