These were used in the (very) older generation GRC series radio sets to help bridge the gap between the armor guys who ran down in 20-28 Mhz and the infantry guys who were all running up in 40 something to 50 range. Basically, you would add an RT-70 to your already staggering supply of radios...
I think you are asking a lot out of the little 531.
I have one that I typically run sustained at about 1850 watts when we use the MKT (also powering radios, lights, and a deep freeze). It is a lovely little set and is a lot lighter on the fuel use than the bigger ones but I wouldn’t go...
I love the old SAIC.
We use it for a variety of things at East Wind and it is always fun to watch members of the younger generation struggle with that thing.
There are one or two of us who are used to it’s antics and can usually get it to do things like… Print…. But for the most part...
I have a commo shelter that I put together to use at East Wind. Nothing as fancy as what you guys are wanting to do, just a simple VRC-12 and VRC-64 setup with retrans and a spot to stick the SB-22. I’ve got the trusty old SIAC V2LC (monochrome of course) in there and will be adding in a...
I was planning on at least starting on them here in my driveway today and tomorrow and probably finishing off at Dave's over the weekend.
BTW, did I ever mention how much I hate people who over torque lug nuts?
Actually the shim trick worked like a charm. 1/4 inch under the low side to split the difference and we're off to the races. Steering wheel returns to center just like before, steering effort is about the same as it was with the old NDCC tires and it tracks good at highway speeds.
Whew...
I got to thinking about this a bit out there and looked at how everything sat with a 1/8th inch shim stuck under the back of the wedge. By my measurment, that knocks about 4 degrees out of it which would then give me about 4 degrees of caster.
I was about to go post this idea up and...
No worries MWMules, you shall always be my most trusted adviser.
Ok, picture and questions time:
Firstly, here's some pics of what we are talking about for those of you who are trying to follow along.
The pics are named, which is the best we can do since this forum won't let us use...

Ah ha! Like the above thread?
I can take a whack at that!
I drive my deuce rather a lot using it to run back and forth out to reenacting events carting all my goodies around as well as for various surplus shopping trips. Usually around 6-8K a year and I have been getting sort of tired of constantly having to be on the hunt for more 9.00 - 20 NDCC...
I actually had an entire post written up for this but it apparently timed out and got lost...
Can't write it again, don't have the time for it now so I'll just point over towards a similar post on the subject from the East Wind site here:
Tire Run!
I can.
I have CUCV seats in my M882.
You do have to do some semi-obvious mods but if you are smart enough to keep an M880 on it's feet it shouldn't present any problems at all.
Well, the good news here is the more draconian the base rules become, the fewer bidders there will be and the lower the cost so in the end, this is a win/win situation for those of us who have the means to play within the rules.
With regards to stupid or unsafe recoveries, whether it’s a truck...
Well this is not exactly the end of the world here in Kansas. We can still get 30 day temp tags with a bill of sale and only an idiot drives without insurance so nothing much is changing here.
Pic is of my M35A2 just home from it's recovery in 08 with the temp tag on the back. I got to run...
Tascabe up in St. Louis has a few of these. Mostly later UAZ-469 models although he has a GAZ-69a as well right now.
I think he usually ends up ordering parts from overseas for them although we are steadily figuring out more and more ways to make do with local stuff (that breaks a lot...
I did a 400 mile run this weekend with mine loaded with about 1/2 ton of cargo, troop seats and the top up. I got around 11 mpg driving around the hills of the Ozarks basically as fast as I could safely travel 60-65 mph.
They do ok, my fuel guage doesn't work so I carry a jerry can of gas...
