Personally I have found them much easier to deal with so far. The local guy and the people in CA have all been great when it comes to customer service.
I wouldn't wait too long... I have been around surplus auctions since before the online contractor liquidations and I think they are at the bottom for runners. GP was pretty smart IMO. They sold the best trucks first at the highest prices, they also moved nearly all 4K of them off base nation...
Prices at auction have been pretty steady for about the last 2 months, average for runners is 10 K... There are far fewer runners every week than there were at the beginning of the sale, which is why some people think the prices are coming down.
I am kinda surprised that there don't seem to be that many for re-sale. They have auctioned almost a quarter of what the are approved to sell already. I have a program set up on craigslist that notifies me when a new one is posted, nation wide there are only a handful listed on craigslist, there...
My concern with driving the HMMWV off is you are instantly breaching contract and they are likely to be more than willing to re-sell your item and keep their restocking fee.
Yes; you will have to sign an authorization for pickup and send it to them... They have to be there between the times that GP gives you, if early they will sit there and if late it will have to be rescheduled.
They will not allow you to drive it off base. You would have to get it towed off.
Typically they escort you to your truck, they do not bring it out for you. Often times the GP trucks are no longer on base. They have lots off base that they store their trucks at and they give you the location...
Pretty easy to tell if it ran or not. if it starts at 5K it didn't run, if it starts at 7.5K it did. When I bought mine I also went for one with the better oil analysis results... they could mean nothing more than that the fluids were recently changed,, but even that is worth a few hundred bucks...
Transport costs are a huge part of it... also booking transport sometimes will put you later than the allowed removal period which means you will have storage fees.
Mine I actually had to book two separate trucking companies, one to get it off of the yard and store it for me and a second to...
Do they even allow preview on these? I know some guys have been able to preview them when they are previewing something from GL which was on the same lot, but I didn't think GP allowed previews?
On a side note... Is that a deer blind on your truck?
Back on topic... it is a crapshoot... there have been plenty of cheap trucks listed on the classifieds here that people bought and then had mechanical problems with... there have also been plenty that turned out to be fine mechanically.
Well it is modified from military configuration and is still doing better than a bone stock HMMWV.... Which imo should win easily hands down :D So count yourself lucky....
Personally I think these votes typically go based on loyalty more than anything else. Guys who know each other personally...
