I need to use the search more and figure out how to search things out properly. I usually end up getting a load of unrelated threads that take forever to sift through. Thanks though, found the info I needed in the above listed threads.
When I started looking at the one I bought, a few people told me 4k was too much. My bottom line was, 15 minutes down the road, pay cash and drive it home, could hear run and test drive prior to buying, and when I said something about a couple tires being worn he through in four like new extras...
LDS-465-1A  I haven't had it on the road much, waiting to get title, tags, and ins. But from the ocassional trips a couple miles down the back roads, it runs nice! Nice loud whistle and plenty of black smoke when I put the hammer down. Gets up to 50mph pretty quick for a 13k lb truck.
I want to change all the fluids in my Deuce and need to know what to put in the drive line. What is a good commercially available gear lube for the Deuce driveline that will properly lube the bronze bushings found in these older units?
would depend how dead. I would think if it had enough juice to attempt to turn the starter it should have enough to cause gauges to move. You may want to check again on that switch. It's possible the didn't bother turning it on, as there isn't a need if pull starting.
I am no expert, but just had an alternator issue on my new purchase. I did alot o research and found that most alternator failures are just the voltage reglator. They can be had for 60 bucks at Erik's. I have talked to a number of people about brakes, and it seems that all the sitting they do...
I have to agree here. I looked over the new regulator before swapping it out, as I am just one of those people who just has to know exactly how something works ;) There is no way for the adjustment screw to be energized, unless something were to go really wrong with it.
Just thought I would update here. I did buy this truck, and so far I am very happy with my purchase. It runs and drives great, does have the whistler, and after looking at a bunch of other equally priced trucks I see I got a very fair deal. Here is a picture of when I picked it up.
And now...
Thanks guys for all the help! I got a regulator from Erik's for 60 bucks. I put it on today, and bingo charging like a champ. I haven't put a voltmeter on it yet, but it's right where it's supposed to be on the dash mounted gauge. Yay! No 400+ dollar alternator needed.
I haven't gotten that far yet, but I was thinking of a water heater insulating blanket. Mine on my water heater has plastic outside, so spilled drops of oil could be wiped off. I also figured it would be nice to be able to easily take it off incase I wanted to move it to another barrel. I also...
Definitely trailer that one. I looked at it on GL, and it appeared to have been rear ended by something really hard. Besides axle housing damage there could be other stuff broken or weakened that could cause a bad situation if towed.
:ditto: Mine has a C turbo "whistler" and starter on passenger side. I can't say that it runs better then other Deuces, because I haven't riden in or driven any other Deuce. I am happy with the way it runs though. Doesn't take long to get to 50mph. I would like to know if adding the 5 ton air...
Do all the LDS engines smoke alot? I know mine does, and was wondering if it was any concern. I don't want to turn it down if I will loose the power, but if I can clear up some of the black smoke with out much loss in power I may want to do it.
If I could sell some antique metal working equipment I have on craigslist right now, I would be talking to you about buying the whole truck. I am also a gunshop owner, so... ;) just food for thought.
I have not ridden in a LDT powered Deuce, as mine came with a LDS. I would like to ride in another Deuce some day to see the difference. I will say I like the way mine runs
