I found a good deal on new 395s so I moved up the timetable on those.
They came with Hutchinson aluminum wheels which is also what I was after.
I had them shipped to my office, which has a loading dock... Then loaded into the deuce to drive home. Front end loaded on tractor allowed for...
Good catch! The pull bars are turn buckles, so I can change the length just enough to stow them and connect to the lowest position of the hitch. Getting that geometry to work was the trickiest part of all this.
The pintle is now spaced out 3/8 from it's original position (the stuff I put in...
For trailers, I wanted to be 12v compatible but also not loose the stock military setup.
So added a 7 pin civy trailer plug.
I'm getting smoother with the plasma torch...
To wire the plug, I just tapped into the military trailer wires. To get a 12V output (since I only have one trailer), I...
Well, I've been to busy to post for a bit, but I did keep up with picture progress more or less. So here are some updates:
Finished hitch system
Finished 12v civy trailer plug
installed 395s
For later today is finishing winch wiring...
And the pics:
More on the hitch. I've added tethers to...
Almost done with civy receiver...
Got the removable lower bracket welded up and fitted.
You can see that there are 5 height adjustments, 1.5" apart. The goal was to be about right on the second pin from bottom with NDTs and still be usable with 395s on a higher pin setting.
Pinned up and...
Well, I'm a day or so late posting, but I got that part, and the winch installed.
That's what it looks like mostly installed. The power pack/hose is there because I decided to persuade the bumperette to let me put the shackle mount between it and the frame. That puts loads closer (more...
Made a little more progress over the last few days...
Here are some shackle mounts, that will bolt on rear of frame, using bumperette holes. (hoping to be able to sandwich between bumperette and frame if I can flex bumperette enough).
For reference, the CAD pic is 3 posts up.
Then I got...
I'm sorry I'm going to miss this. I grew up in Issaquah, walking distance from the XXX. I miss it.
Now I'm on the other coast, and so, unable to attend.

Hey All,
I need a sanity check. I think...
So I have a USAF deuce with the dual circuit brakes. I recently rebuilt two short airpacks and replaced the two that were in there. I also replaced the MC, with one from Peashooter. Functionally the same, but has remote reservoir and integrated...
Yes, those bumpers hit on the bumperettes (but it's purely platonic)..
Bumperettes, and tailights, are temporarily missing in those pics. In fact they are back on currently. I explored keeping the bumperettes off, but they seem to be worth keeping. The receiver/winch/shackles I'm working on...
License plate "Frame"
So, here's a little post on how I mounted the license plate.
I wanted a protected place to put it that wasn't hanging down like an afterthought.
I realize my solution might be blasphemous to some, but so be it... I rather like how it turned out.
The best spot, IMHO, is...
So I have some more updates...
I've been working pretty steadily on the brakes, a civy receiver hitch/ winch mount, mounting a license plate, mounting LED taillights and indicators, reverse lights, and dealing with a blinker issue.
I'll cover the blinker stuff in this post.
So, when I got the...
The depth adjust can probably be gotten around if it's not right, as you say, by cutting it off, worst case.
What's not clear however is what size the hole for the connector is. If it's too small, you could be out $32.
For what it's worth to all, AF-8 crimpers can be found starting at about...
Hey All,
I found several threads (from circa '08 ) on how to crimp the standard connectors (that we call Packard) on deuces, but I haven't found much lately.
Also, a simple mod that I made to my crimp tool made it much easier to use, so I thought I'd post a summary.
First of all, the...
OK, so that pic was from page 21 of http://www.steelsoldiers.com/upload/M35/TM9-2815-204-35.pdf which is for an LDS-427, immediately visible is the lack of FDC...
A similar, but not as clear pic can also be found on page 14 of...
I don't remember which TM I pulled this out of, but I found it exceedingly helpful to understand what was going on.
It even has a balloon on our particular subject here. Indicated as a fuel filter bypass. That shouldn't open until 60 or 70 psi.
Ha! I have the same stuff. Vintage '92.
I couldn't bring myself to use it. Plus I really wanted the contrasting purple color to tell when fresh fluid was coming out of the system.
I decided to order some new stuff from http://www.iris-911.com/products.htm per Peashooter's recommendation.
I...
Here ya go!
The second and third pics show the retaining screw in two very different positions. I suspect that the split in the screw should be "splayed" so that it retains its position with friction. Mine is not splayed and moves easily with my finger tip.
Here's the attached...
Hey Guys,
I was checking out my PRV-70 pretty carefully when I was trying to duplicate in the filter setup I'm making. One thing I noticed (and didn't like) was that the capture screw that holds the spring and ball in place is threaded in, but only loosely. I was able to turn mine with my...
That's a Black and Tan.
It should be Guinness and Harp, but it looks like you got it upside-down. Yer Guinness should be on the top.
Joking aside, don't try drinking it to identify. And whether it's DOT3 and DOT3 or DOT5 and rusty water, the solution is the same. Which is exactly what...
