Hey congrats man, I've had my M1009 for a year now and its the best truck I've ever had (and I'm 44!) Replace your harmonic balancer and oil cooler hoses if they're not new, those are weak spots that can cost you an engine. Also, on mine the aluminum oil cooler line that runs behind the radiator...
Hi Alredneck, checkout ORD zero-rate, it's not a lift block, it's part of the spring pack and a rather innovative product that allows you to change your wheelbase. I'm going to do the installation and repost with the new measurements. And try to keep from jumping 'er in the meantime.
I'm measuring the driveshaft with the front wheels off the ground (lifted by the D-rings). If I add in the 1" shift of the zero-rate, I have only 1/4" spline engagement left, which sounds pretty slim. Must've run out of tubing on a friday the day they built mine. Sounds like if I find a used...
Ya that's how they're supposed to feel, can turn by hand but not spin freely. I've only seen them go bad by losing all resistance so that the engine overheats
Ya I've replaced several windshields in these trucks and never broke one yet! First put your feet up on the cracked windshield from the inside and kick the f****er out. Clean all the bits of glass and glue off the rubber molding, then pull out the hard plastic strip in the center. Lube up the...
Looks like the front driveshaft will be a little too short on my M1009, with 2" front add-a-leaves, if I use Zero-Rate blocks to move the front axle forward by 1". The local shop wants $200 to lengthen the driveshaft! What if I plasma-cut a disk from a 1" thick block of steel, drill four holes...
Got all the parts for installing a '93 6.5 gm-4 turbo on my '86 M1009. Just a few more questions:
1. From a quick search, the opinion seems to be that an intercooler is probably not going to make much difference, and might hurt throttle response due to turbo lag. I've got a chance to score a...
It senses the fluctuating magnetic field of the alternator as it rotates. I'm shopping for a tach also, but I'm thinking of a Tiny Tach (like this one: ebay #330416057304). They're only around $100 as compared to $150 for the autometer setup, and they trigger off the pulse of the injector line...
I'm looking for just the plug end, to put on one end of a set of jumper cables I already own. Need the single pin kind, that looks like a giant RCA audio plug.
Want to make a set of jumper cables for my '86 M1009. I need the single pin style. I tried OD Iron's site but they don't seem to carry them, and although Ebay sometimes has them, they don't now. Anyone have one to sell?
Hey Beanman1, I'm in the middle of converting my M1009 to 12V and have a 24v starter that I won't need. The vehicle odometer shows 40K miles and it always started easily. You can have it for $20, plus shipping to GA by UPS ground is $30 for a total of $50 if interested let me know.
If you noticed metal shavings in the oil when you changed it, theres a good chance you spun a main bearing. Check the pressure again with a different gauge, but I think the only way you're going to diagnose this situation is to drop the pan and have a look at the bearings and the pickup.
u guessed it
That's exactly why I want to move them, I just bought a turbo kit on ebay (see my previous thread). Also I'm looking for space to mount a larger, heated fuel filter setup that's 16" tall, and the only spot with that kind of depth is right where the front battery now sits. It might...
I've been thinking of moving the batteries in my M1009 to the back of the bed, just inside the tailgate behind the wheelwells one on each side. The truck came with the huge Armasafe military batteries, which seem to have no vents on them. Are these safe to mount inside the passenger compartment...
Could be a bad lift pump, but I'd bet there's a leak in the fuel line between the tank and the pump, allowing air to be sucked in. Look for wet spots on the fuel line inside the passenger framerail or at the top of the fuel tank. Couldl be ALOT easier to fix than swapping the fuel pump.
...for $615, it's off a '93 6.5 and seems pretty complete (I've included the description that came with it at the bottom of this post). I've read T_F_E's excellent turbo-install thread, but I still have a few questions maybe you guys could help me with (it's going on a '86 M1009 with 40k miles)...
Actually, Kieth_J, Rudolf Diesel designed the diesel engine to run on vegetable oil, as a way for farmers to compete with heavy industry. :cookoo: Many people (like myself, in my M1009 and VW) have run 100% WVO for years with no ill effects. I consider my system overkill in both filtration and...
I'm getting together parts for the same swap...do you recall the part # for the rear conversion u-joint? Also, did you need a drop steering arm for the front?
