We'll be there with Biff again this year. We might even actually be on time to Borst Park this year, instead of late like last year.
Hopefully with our resident retired Air Force Captain in tow this time.
Can't wait to see everybody there again. It was a great time last year. +)
The truck 4 numbers off from Pete's is ours. Pete has the E908X truck, and we have the E904X truck. If Pete's went over, then it's a good bet ours did, too. Interesting information, good find, Pete!
I think I've seen that truck off Bishop. Don't think I've seen anyone around it, either...
If you're going to get a HEMTT and want the most out of your truck, get the GMT variant of the M985. This is the "guided missile transporter" used by the Patriot batteries. It has a heavier crane with extended height and reach, with a greater load capacity, than the standard M985 or M977, on the...
Yeah. Doing the conversion is expensive, to be sure. What's kind of silly is that, from a manufacturing perspective, discs are cheaper to produce and less costly to install in the first place than drums. But we're still doing drums anyway.
If I had the money, I'd swap over to air discs without...
Not to step on any toes, and certainly not to try to hijack the thread, but... Just about any medium and heavy truck manufacturer that deals in Europe will have these parts. They went to air discs as standard instead of drums DECADES ago. If somebody wanted to install an air-powered driveline...
Halftracks aren't covered under this law? That seems like a gross oversight, and unfair to halftrack owners. If I had a halftrack, I'd want to drive it at least as much as I drive my M923. What's with the no halftracks restriction?
I'm not sure why we're blaming AM General for this issue. AM General did not design the transmission, and I doubt they had much if any input into the manufacturing of said transmission. It was selected based on specific mission criteria; Allison supplied these transmissions from existing...
Last time I checked, sometime last year, that's not too much less than the current cost for new G177 in the size our trucks use. These tires are *expensive*. Goodyears generally always are, though. The 315/75R16 Wrangler Duratracs on our Centurion are only marginally less expensive than the G177s.
You got yourself out before I could get logged in and respond, but if you need a hand, our available vehicles are up in Centralia, maybe an hour and a half from Portland. Amer-Team and his trucks are only a couple miles from us, too. There's help available when you really need it.
Anybody else...
Update: Okay, this is just odd. I went out and started Biff and let it run for a minute or so... the alternator started charging again. The needle on the gauge was down at the top of the red on the left side when I started cranking. Once the engine started, the needle had dropped a bit so there...
The 1994.5 T444E in our '91 Centurion requires scheduled coolant additives, too. I just do what the Navistar techs tell me to do, which is, happily, the same thing the Ford techs tell me to do. The real trick is getting them to agree on exactly which additives to put in.
Thank you, gentlemen. That is exactly what I needed. Good arguments for a suitable solution. The Wolverine kit looks like my best option at this time. That's what I wanted to know.
Now to scrabble together the funds needed to buy the kit. Getting laid off last month has really put a crimp in my...
Thank you, this is exactly what I mean. There are a lot of options, and I really don't know what the pluses and minuses to each one might be. I've been doing a lot of reading, but... The reality is, lots of guys have done lots of things, but mostly they don't really say why they chose what they...
Thank you for the link. Is that what the previous poster was referring to? There's no way to tell. Maybe these are two different solutions. Which one is better? That probably is the same one, I doubt there are two kits with the same price from two different vendors, but you never know. It still...
It would help if there were links or some other identifier in your post. Were there supposed to be links on "these kits" and "these guys"? Because from your post I don't know who those guys are or what kits you're talking about. Some clarification would be very useful here.
Also, thank you for...
Taking Biff, our M923, out to the fueling station for a top-up, and the alternator stopped charging. I didn't see, hear, or smell anything, but it stopped charging. My best guess is that the Magic Smoke has escaped.
It was behaving somewhat erratically prior to this trip, to be honest. The...
Really wanted to make this one with the 904 truck to match your 908, Peter, but... not this time. Doctor's appointments that just can't be missed. So it goes. Same thing happened with the Lighted Tractor Parade, too much other stuff going on trying to get the Centurion on the road in between...
And, to take this thread back where it started, I think that if a person really likes the Unimog, and/or has a genuine use or need for one, they should go for it. I have never heard of anyone who regretted getting one, and every person who sold theirs regretted doing so. In their particular...
If you take care of them, they don't wear out at all. I've seen DT466 engines with over 2 million, no rebuilds, and still going strong. If there's one thing that company got right, it's their engines.
I would dare say, Benz isn't far behind. There is some absolutely fantastic engineering in MB...
You've got me there. The rebuild kit on an SV engine is about $2500 and doesn't include everything you need to do the compleat job, which is stupid in my opinion. Fortunately, I've never had to do it. None of my SV engines has ever given me a reason to do more than basic maintenance, except of...
