CDR-Don't give up yet! That is the fun and learning a new (to you), machine. You have a lot invested in it. There is enough knowledge here to help you through. In the end you will be glad you did. Just hang on and help will be here soon.

Look for a used 400 cycle 005A. They appear to be going for less cost from what I have seen.
If the "stuff" was through the oil pump and oil bypass was stuck, you can bet it is throughout the oil passages. You may already have main/rod bearing damage.
David
There should be a diagram of the oil flow in the TM. You won't be able to reach much of it from the head. There is a oil passage feeding every rod and main bearing that you can't get to without pulling the engine down. Most cranks that I have seen have passages drilled in them. I am sure...
Keep your chin up-you will get ahead of the problems eventually. I had to replace the pistons in one of my 002's due to the excess use of starting fluid. I won't say who. I may have just finished it off.
I have found that "Purple Power" (Lowes/Home Depot), is good for taking the...
Kevin,
I have purchased a couple of the gauges from e-components.com and they are easy to deal with and had the gauges in a few days. They still look new after 9 months or so. Work like original.

Wow! Someone's attempt at sabotage? Concur with 1800 Diesel's comment with needing to tear down and boil out the block. If not, you will be chasing this problem forever. Any signs of the same material in the other unit? Is this material under the rocker cover also?
Will be watching your...
We used to have regular outages from hours to days. Now that I have everything set up and working, we won't have one for a long while. Good luck with yours. Enjoy the run time.... :-)
David
Sounds like you have a couple of different things going on (in my un-expert opinion). Reduction of oil pressure from reduction of viscosity and/or excessive bearing clearance. The hot not starting might be a symptom of low compression-you mention wet stacking (rings?).
Just trying to get the...
Gimpy is right. Mine was a M103 (double 002's). I didn't pick up that yours was a M116 (single generator-smaller trailer). Get the 10% or so trailer weight on the tongue and it should ride good. What would we do without Gimpy....
Hope you get it.
David
Loading MEP trailer on your trailer
...
Chrispyny-I did the same thing you are considering. My 14' trailer is 81" inside the fenderwells. Picked up a MEP electric plant trailer (w/2 002's) from New Castle a year ago. Dragged on trailer backwards with come along and chained down. Had 1"...
Looking at the feedback from the last GL 802/803 sale, appears like the units are more complicated and the military mechanics had problems maintaining them. Not having worked on them, I still think I will stay with the 002 as I have many parts for them on hand (as well as a spare working unit)...
Looking for opinions on how the long term maintenance compares with the 002/003 and 802/803? Being water cooled, the 802/803 have cooling system maintenance, belts, water pump, etc. Word is that both the Lister/Petter and the Onan engines are dependable. And parts are still available for...
Ditto on talking to a hvac service manager. Tell him what you want to use it for. Has to be a heat pump indoor air handler-need heaters and relays.
