Working On The M561 Gama Goat

Mark: Would 2 engine hoists positioned one on each side of the Goat work? You could borrow mine but I do not trust it...no more Chinese HF cheap models for me!

    Just purchased my 2nd MV...M38A1

Most of us have done this to some extent. Don't feel too badly...life goes on. When I lose money on a new hobby I consider it the price of admission. Do not ask what I have invested in my CUCVs!

    Any magazines for HMMWV?

I used to collect Hummer articles, etc. At one time AM Gen published a Hummer magazine but it was for H1 owners and military models were rarely mentioned. There were some good articles and maintenance, tools to carry, etc. You could contact AM Gen and see if it is available in any form.

Military grill guards - what options are there?

Think I found mine on G503. They were available in tan, black, and 383 green.

And so the MV madness begins...bought a M1009

LMC truck has most of the parts although some people have not liked the replacement body parts.

M1102 GL purchase - can it be towed home without a riser hitch?

Agree with most of above. The pintle riser is a good investment. Although you will probably not need the surge brakes to activate with empty trailer, they will work better if trailer is level. Safety chain extenders may be necessary. I have posted before that you can use the hoisting shackles...

    M416 Restoration in Progress

Don,t know for sure but a .30 cal. can will do that. The last M416 I was signed for was full of beer and ice, Bien Hoa, 4 July 1971.

Military grill guards - what options are there?

The version on the early H1 will bolt on. Another, stronger version is the IbesTek push bumper that really gives some front protection.

    Plywood in the M998

Don't know for sure but it provides some sound insulation, protects the paint, allows some loads to be moved more easily, and provides a level deck surface. When replacing mine I discovered that it was red wood plywood!

battery cutoff - is 300 amp enough?

Check with "Those Military Guys" vendor on SS. Have used their switches on M998 and M151. These are designed for 2 1/2 tons and 5 tons, I believe.

    Home at last: 94 M998A1

The trays are a good thing to have. Also the red rubber terminal covers for safety.

Jump Starting a HMMWV - Which option would you go with?

You need to buy a second 24V military vehicle and a slave cable...only kidding; these toys are addictive!

    Bad PCB?

The self cranking is scary. I second the post about battery cutoff. Both my H1 and M998 cycle the plugs a couple times after starting.

Uncovering unit markings from demil overspray

Used lacquer thinner on HMMWV and M1101/02 trailers. Go slowly. You still have to repaint the markings if you want to keep them.
